European Games Industry Report

The Institute for Prospective Technology Studies (IPTS) in Seville is a research arm of the EC and has just issued a report on the competitiveness of the European games industry.

The full report is available to download for free and is a good source of up to date statistics. There are a range of presentations by other speakers also available for download.

Fund Your Idea

The National Digital Research Centre in the Digital hub is seeking tech entrepreneurs and start-up promoters to take part in the Spring 2011 ‘LaunchPad’ programme.

LaunchPad is a three-month accelerator programme targeted at enabling great people to launch great ideas in the digital space.

It provides individuals or small teams with a supportive environment alongside other start-ups, hands-on mentoring to guide development, weekly workshops and networking with the right people and investment of up to €20,000 per project.

The deadline for applications is 5:00pm 17th November 2010. Eligible applicants will be invited to pitch their idea to the NDRC evaluation panel between 25th November and 2nd December 2010. The programme will start on 5th January 2011.

Ballardia Beta Keys

Gd.ie is happy to publicice that Irish indie developer Ballardia has their first title, World of the Living Dead, in closed beta.

Gd.ie have five beta keys to give away to the first five people who e-mail aphra at gamedevelopers dot ie.

World of the Living Dead is the work of Dave Barton – former Chief Game Designer at Jolt Online and designer of the Jolt/Activision Legends of Zork game – and Kulpreet Singh – former CTO of Jolt Online.

World of the Living Dead is about the difficulties of surviving in the zombie apocalypse, about scarcity, dehydration and starvation. Players must guide their small group of survivors through the zombie-filled streets of over twelve thousand square kilometers of Los Angeles County, competing against other players for scarce resources to survive.
