Irish Conference on Game-Based Learning

The 6th Irish Conference on Game-Based Learning (iGBL2016) will be be hosted by Trinity College Dublin on 1st and 2nd September 2016, and bookings are now open.

iGBL provides a forum for all stakeholders interested in exchanging ideas, projects, and best practice on the use of games and game-based approaches to support motivation, learning, and change.

– Researchers will be able to present and share their latest findings.
– Students will have an opportunity to present their work, showcase their games, meet specialists in this field and obtain feedback.
– Instructors will have the opportunity to discover new ideas and learn and share new game-based skills that they can integrate in their teaching.
– Companies will be able to showcase their products and explain how these can be used in the context of learning and motivation.

The conference includes a mix of academic presentations, practical workshops, digital and non-digital games demos, along with plenty of opportunities to network.

This year, 100 authors (e.g., teachers, researchers, and students) will be presenting their work and developments on games and learning through 49 presentations (e.g., workshops, game demos, and research and practitioners’ presentations). We are also delighted to have Derek Robertson as our keynote speaker this year.

Innovate our World looking for Unity 3D intern (update)

We are looking for Unity 3D developers to work part-time on Lunar Destiny, a VR rover racing game set on the Moon. The game is part of an extended universe, featuring a novel, comics, poster art, and more.

Team is based in Ireland and U.S.

This is a perfect opportunity for the right candidate to work on a new commercial game and level up their skills. We’re looking for a self starter who can manage their workflow, be punctual for calls and meetings, and work with an international team to tight deadlines. They must be good at documenting code and troubleshooting issues. The right candidate will work with one of our lead developers who will provide guidance and review the quality of their work.

Positions are initially as unpaid interns; several will transition to paid positions later this year.

You must be able to:

*Work remotely and independently, using your own hardware and software
*Participate in Skype video conferences and WhatsApp texting
*Initially working mostly with US staff (GMT – 5 hours) for part of workday
*Work in a Unity environment using C#
*Implement game functionality per design and guidance
*Proficiency importing 3D artwork and getting it game-ready within Unity. (setting up rigging, Animations, Materials)
*Proficiency with the Physically Based Rendering system within Unity
*Give regular feedback to the project management team on design, coding, and implementation issues and improvements
*Provide quality technical documentation
*Create tools for level design and mechanics tweaking
*Use GitHub or similar repository for daily code checkin
*Provide accurate estimates for work and meet estimates
*Address bugs and other technical issues in a timely manner

Helpful if you have:

*Excellent knowledge of Unity C#
*Experience with shipped game titles
*Interest and knowledge of space programs/technologies
*Experience with racing games/vehicles

DIGIT are on the hunt for a Community Manager, who can lead the community strategy and operations for our successful, full scale, MMORTS game Kings of the Realm.

Kings of the Realm was DIGIT’s first title launched in 2014. This role will focus on growing the Kings of the Realm community, and actively work with the product management and game design teams to help ensure we are evolving the game with our player base in mind.

Here’s what you will be doing

– Manage a vibrant and opinionated community, including all support requests from our player base. Getting this right is imperative to the games success
– Immerse yourself in the game. There shouldn’t be a new or existing feature that you’re not 100% familiar with
– Event Management – LiveOps; tournaments, event weekends, sales, special offer bundles, fan competitions etc.
– Moderate official game website forums
– Update in-game communication and announcements in multiple languages
– Forge alliances with top community leaders across multiple territories to understand the player needs, and communicate effectively with the community
– Be the link between the community and DIGIT’s games dev, product and QA teams, to understand how new features impacts player experiences
– Provide reporting and analysis on community feedback and player behaviour (e.g bug stats, suggestions for improvement, etc.)
– Grow our game community and player base, across territories
– Maintain social network presences across multiple channels.

To do this job, you will need;

– Minimum 2+ years experience managing a games community across territories, languages and cultures – essential
– Experience of building an engaged community who love the game – essential
– Avid gaming enthusiast – essential
– The ability to be come up with and implement ideas to grow the community following
– Strong communicator, English fluency mandatory
– High organisational skills
– Maturity – able to to assess community comments and respond professionally and calmly and can be trusted to work autonomously.
– While not mandatory, below are some nice to have’s
– A second language.
