Peter Molyneaux is to present at a special Games Event as part of the Dublin Film Festival on Thursday 25th February.... it is expected that another 'well known' game developer will also attend this event with a panel discussion following both presentations.... Ill keep you posted....
BIO (in case you didnt know)
Peter Molyneux is one of the best-known names in the international world of computer games. He co-founded Bullfrog Productions in 1987 and created a new genre of computer games, “the god game” with the release of Populous. Since then Peter has been responsible for a string of massive selling games including Powermonger, Theme Park, Magic Carpet and Dungeon Keeper. Cumulative sales of these Bullfrog games are around ten million worldwide. In 1997 Peter left Bullfrog Productions to form a new games development company Lionhead Studios. The company has released five games Black & White in 2001, Fable in 2004 Black & White 2 (PC), The Movies (PC) and Fable the Lost Chapters (PC and Xbox) in 2005. Cumulative sales are approaching the 5 million mark. Lionhead now numbers over 135 employees. In April 2006 Lionhead Studios was sold to Microsoft Corp, Peter is recognised as one of the computer games industry’s most articulate and eloquent speakers on the subject of the development of computer games. He has been awarded four honorary doctorates and was inducted into the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame. Peter was also awarded an OBE in the 2005 New Years Honours List for services to the computer video games industry. In 2007 the French government recognized his services to the game industry with the Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (The Knighthood in the Order of Arts and Letters). Lionhead’s latest game Fable II was released to rave reviews in October 2008; sales are currently approaching the 3 million mark. Lionhead is currently working on two new projects, one of which is Fable III. Peter was appointed as Creative Director MGS Europe earlier this year.

I think this is an interesting development - the Dublin Film Festival getting involved in bringing over major game designers for a public event.
Well done to Hugh McT in DIT for his work on this and thanks to Steve C too..

Post subject: God Game Designer Peter Molyneux Keynote Speech Details....
|
|
God game pioneer Peter Molyneux will give the keynote speech at JDIFF 2010’s gaming forum, Controller Cinema, run in conjunction with in conjunction with the schools of computing and media in DIT.
Games are no longer simplistic variations on collect or kill. Games have risen year on year to occupy the position they now hold, one where they seem more and more like films you can change and live through. People have screamed at Bioshock’s splitters, laughed at Fallout’s mutants and if you didn’t feel a tug on your heart when Aeris died in FF VII you’re made of stone.
Such is the level of interactivity that games have been created where your entire character is customisable, right down to their morals. The undisputed daddy of these games is Peter Molyneux. Not content with creating Populous and redefining gaming by making you a creator of worlds, he wanted to create a world where everything you did had consequences for your character. Role Playing Games are usually just that; you play a role. Along with a few others, Molyneux has completely revolutionised the term. You decide everything about that role and how you live. Your role and character could be vastly different from that of another player, purely because of the choices you’ve each made.
Molyneux will discuss RPGs and their inherently cinematic nature. This will be followed by a panel discussion addressing RPG game development within the Irish gaming industry and will be chaired by Aphra Kerr. This event will take place in DIT aungier street, in room 4-027
To gaurentee a place at this event (spaces are limited) you can purchase tickets here for 5EUR
http://jdiff.ticketsolve.com/shows/23497949/events
Alternatively tickets can be purchased by calling 01 687 7974 or in person at the JDIFF Ticketing Office, Filmbase, Curved St, Dublin 2
Entry will be allowed on the night but subject to space. I will update the forum on space next week.
DIT Schools of Media and Computer Science MSc in Digital Games will be launched at this event.
Digital games comprise a large and fast-growing part of the global entertainment industry. This new Masters programme will prepare graduates to become innovators in this exciting field. It provides a multi-disciplinary and well-rounded education in game conception, design and manufacture, uniquely building on the combined expertise of the Digital Media Centre, and the Schools of Media and Computer Science. This full-time programme will provide modules in Ludology, game design, programming, animation, project management and the business of games. The modular structure of the course will cater for varying levels of experience in each area. Particular emphasis will be placed on integrating skills through group projects. It will appeal to graduates from diverse undergraduate and work experiences, including the visual and media arts, and computer science.

Molyneux has recently been outspoken about his frustrations with the British government and their lack of tax breaks & incentives for games companies in the UK. I'd be interested to hear what he thought about the same issues with respect to Ireland.
Of course I wouldn't be around to hear the answer - any chance this is being recorded in any way?

Aungier is the posh new one, newish one, that is near the Cornerstone pub.
It is on your left coming from Dame street, pass the Avalon hostel and St. Valentine's church and just before you hit the junction of Kevin Street and Wexford Street - the building itself is set back from the street with lots of glass.
