I am helping add a new night to our little scenes calendar.
It is called dubLUDO and it is going to be a regular event about Game Design, Iteration and Feedback.
Why are you doing this?
There are lots of great events here that help grow of efforts but none of them are currently focused on the quality of the games we are making. There are events for getting a job, marketing, networking, technology, funding and about everything else. But where can I go if Level 4 of my game is boring or this promising prototype is just not what I know it could be?
What will we be doing?
Showing what you are working on. Getting folk to play it and give feedback. Giving feedback on other projects. Basically a bunch of games set up the the pub.
We will experiment with other formats for future events.
This is a new effort on our part, so we will make lost of mistakes and things might be a little bumpy, but I feel there is some great potential here. I am in contact with similar groups in London, Cambridge and Montreal and getting suggestions from them.
Who should come?
Anyone that wants to make better games and improve their craft.
Thursday at 18:30
A pub in Dublin with lots of sockets. I am looking at some tomorrow and will update then.
I am looking forward to playing your games!

I think I was to do stuff on this after our last indie meet but I have been a bit swamped sorry about that.
I think Mark also said there would be space down in the incubator if we wished too..
April 8, 2013 at 4:44 pm #49884
yes once classes are done , the main room in the incubator is pretty much free and open.
April 9, 2013 at 9:57 am #49885
We will be in the Bernard Shaw.
I have an area reserved.
See you there.

We are going to do it every 2 weeks though so there will be another chance.
April 9, 2013 at 9:26 pm #49893
Can anyone (i.e. hobbyists / bedroom coders) bring a game / prototype along?
I’ve been chipping away (admittedly very slowly) at the prototype I brought to State Of Play last year and would really appreciate some more plays/opinions/advice.
April 9, 2013 at 11:14 pm #49894
This event is for everyone that is making games, full time, hobby, getting started, whatever.
I look forward to playing your game!

I think we will try a number of different formats and venues but I assume it will settle down at som point.
I will certainly try and give better notice for the next one.

I am on facebook – do I have to join a specific group or something?
May 14, 2013 at 11:21 pm #50021
Perhaps, there is an invite only Irish game dev group on FB it could be linked to that.
Its a lot more active than gd.ie (oops the cat is out of the bag)
May 15, 2013 at 11:18 am #50023
Sorry, the event was not set to public.
Thanks for letting me know.
I have no deep love of FB but it is handy for such things.
If anyone wishes to take the lead of listing the event on a
different service please be my guest.
I have no desire to retain any conceptual ownership of this event.
The sooner is becomes self perpetuating the better.
If anyone does not care for the manner / time / location / tone / audience
please by all means schedule your own one. Call it dubLUDO if you like.
Call it something else if you like.
Either way, I’ll be there with what ever I am working on.
May 25, 2013 at 8:58 pm #50069
This is awesome, well done Owen. I literally registered and came to gd.ie to see if there was such a group or if people were interesting in getting one going. I look forward to Wednesday then.
I assume the plan is for a regular thing? A lot of indies I know in the UK stressed having it at the same time each week/fortnight (eg: every wed at 7 come to gamespace) was a really good idea to getting it self-sustaining and getting a regular crew going (so if you can’t make it one week, and it really shouldn’t rest on one person, then no foul).
Also I think having a simple blog and constant web presence outside of FB like London Indies (londonindies-dot-com/), would definitely be no harm.

May 28, 2013 at 11:06 pm #50084
I aim to decentralize governance ASAP.
Lets have a chat about it at the meet tomorrow.
We can see if anyone wants to take the lead on the Blog too.
Aphra, think you can make it?
May 29, 2013 at 8:38 am #50085

I have just read a nice short piece on the Australian games industry where it talks about their game jams and design events.
June 14, 2013 at 9:13 am #50180
It seems you can travel from Galway to Dublin and on to Belfast for games related events in the next few weeks!!
July 24, 2013 at 12:41 am #50280

The facebook page has the last date as 25th June and was wondering if there’s another one scheduled for this month.
Can’t seem to find a thing about it though!
