Surprised SC got so high, edge generally dont rate sequels too high.
Also expected Scare face to get low, regardless of how good it is, edge hates movie based licensed games.

ok ok i heard you the first time.

personally i like edge reviews, but really the score is not enough (you need to read it to see if its any good)

Edge are so far up there own arses that I wouldn’t trust any of their reviews to be honest.

often i find the score doesnt reflect the review. i suspect 2 different ppl are invovled.

      The two ppl are

      1: Review written by journalist.
      2:score bought by game developer..

edge did a great article about the corruption in the game mag industry, “give our crap racer a good score, you can get a exclusive on our AAA title.

also there are the freelance reviewers that get paid per word, there was one that was reviewing a rpg for the gba, he give it an “aright” review. the editor had a we go on the game after the review was submitted, he used the same cart the reviewer used, the only save on in the cart was for “13mins” played

off topic: no more spelling mistakes for me, thank you firefox 2

still a better magazine than most of the other rags out there, though the editors are utter twonks at times

*wonders if his housemate picked up his subscription copy off the mat today*

i used to think they were decent for at least giving driver 3 a crap score (3 i think) when other magazines rated it highly (through their teeth/arses), but recently i heard that edge always slated reflections games since reflections pulled an exclusive cover from edge when offered one on official playstation or similar many years ago.

off topic: is firefox still the mother, father and bastard son of all memory hogs? my open copy of 1.5 is using 120MB just to display gmail and three gd.ie forum tabs…

Nope from people I’ve been talking to its using less memory than IE7 with the same amount of tabs open(but slightly more than Opera) but haven’t heard if the memory leak has been sorted as yet

edge give the last driver game a decent score 7/10, but the staff behind edge have changed many times over the years.

people think that firefox is a memory hig compared to i.e. but really i.e. a lot of the memory usage is hidden in with the window memory useage , so its just looks like its useing less memory.

I like the articles on gaming culture in edge, but i dont really trust the reviews

I like the gamespot video reviews, which they normally do for anticipated releases. which is cool

Odd, the score for Sam N’ Max is contary to ever other review I’ve read on the net. :?

edge scores are different to most, most people think at anything under 70% is crap, so really decent games are ranked between 70%-100% which is just stupid. 6-10 is still a good score in edge

I’d change to 2 to publisher, not developer

      Ah, no I disagree.

For example, you work for Sega Driving Studio, your publisher is Sega.
Your studio’s ideals (those of a developer) are probably not the ideals of Sega as a publishing house.

I work for Rebellion and we’re independent and therefore our publisher is never us.

Look at EA, EA publishing and EA development are completely different entities.

This strikes me as urban myth.

For a magazine that prides itself on being independent, untouchable and transparent, I couldn’t see them being so juvenile, petty and vengeful.

As has been mentioned, staff change regularly, so you’d either need a long-standing company mandate (‘Always slate Reflections games’), or a draconian editor willing to supercede her staffs reviews.

Much more likely explanation is that is was a shit game.

yeah, but the editor and all was boot from edge a few years ago, there was a huge change in staff, (a big disagreement with the publishers “future”) no sure of the full story

also they did a feature on the last diver game before it was reviewed/ released, and its was overall positive. It had interviews from people at reflections saying basicly “we know driver 3 is shit, we don’t want to make the same mistakes again”
