      Hello folks,
As some of you already know – I departed company with Bill and his xbox a month or two back and I’m now a programme manager with the MIDAS INITATIVE – with specific responsibilities for establishing and running a cluster of creative digital media companies in the east border region. All of which is panning out very nicely – I will be making formal announcements in Jan 2005 in that regard. My role is just one of a number around the initiative, others are focused on facility management and others on research, Please allow me to bring the research aspect to your attention now as some of you may receive a phone call in that respect in the near future, so here’s the background:

MIDAS Project, Digital Content Industries Research Programme

Dream Ireland, in conjunction with the Dundalk Institute of Technology (DKIT) and the University of Ulster, are conducting research into the digital content industries as part of a new business development initiative, the MIDAS Project, supported by the EU Interreg programme and the International Fund for Ireland.

MIDAS aims to inform and assist government policy, both north and south, in supporting the growth of animation, film & broadcast, computer games, music technologies and interactive media towards long-term sustainability in these new and emerging markets.

As part of this process it is important to assess the current capabilities and strengths of key players within these industries, in order to identify the issues currently being faced and the types of support required to assist companies to grow to their full potential. We would be grateful, therefore, if you would agree to participate in this, the most comprehensive research survey yet undertaken for the sector in Ireland.

The research will take the form of a 10-15 minute telephone survey with someone in a senior management position within your business. We would like to assure you that, in keeping with all relevant Data Protection legislation, any information provided by you will remain anonymous, will be used solely for the purposes of the MIDAS Project and will not be made available to any third party.

Further information on this or any other aspect of the MIDAS Project can be requested from Gary McCausland, Dream Ireland on +44 2890 321320 or Irene Monaghan DKIT, on 00 353 42 93 70200.

      So there you go

      Aphra,

Just out of interest, where is your ‘new research centre’ based. and what type of research do you conduct there???

I suppose if this were a Bond film, the question would be…

      “Who do you work for?”

      But that’s just being melodramatic…
