Talks:

Tom Shaw – “ShipItCon : Built It And They Will Come”
This talk covers the highs and lows of organising a community focussed tech conference in which inclusion and accessibility were at the core from day one.
Where did we “fail” and what would we do differently with the benefit of hindsight? When looking at an event through a D&I lens it can become intimidating as the list of requirements grows. We’ll talk about some of the practical steps you can take to make your next event more inclusive and leave attendees with a feeling of belonging.

About Tom:
Thomas Shaw is the Co-Founder and Organizer of ShipItCon. Tom believes in the power of community and feels that it’s my duty to help existing communities grow while fostering new ones. Tom is currently working as a Systems Engineer and D&I Advocate at Riot Games. Previous roles include; Build Engineer at Demonware (Activision), System Automation Engineer at Oracle and Java QA Engineer at Sun Microsystems. He is also a Docker Captain and have been involved in expanding the Docker community in Dublin since 2014.

Vicky Lee & Aphra Kerr-
Vicky and Aphra will be talking about the ReFiG-funded project, which has focussed on three initiatives: Firstly, surveying and studying existing gamejam events in Dublin, Limerick and Cork in Ireland to see who attends and why; secondly, establishing a network of people interested in running diversity related game events in Ireland and thirdly, organising introductory female friendly beginner game making workshops in Dublin and Galway.

About Vicky –
Vicky Twomey-Lee is a coder, tech event organiser, mentor, advocates diversity in tech and most recently joined the Dublin Maker team as their Maker Advocate as part of MADE, a 2-year SFI-funded programme hosted by DCU. She is on the “Refiguring Innovation in Digital Games” project with Dr. Aphra Kerr and helped organised diversity in games workshops in Dublin and Galway.
