Playtest Dublin: Sunday Session #3
December 1, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Playtest Dublin is our local analogue game design group for board games, card games, role-playing games, wargames, and all things physical and tabletop. If you’re interested in making games or already have been making your own, do come join us to play a few prototypes and to talk about design. All are welcome, regardless of experience level.
UPDATES:
In a change to how we’ve done things in recent years, we are going to try shifting the event to a Sunday daytime. Hopefully this should be more convenient for more people and will allow us to test for longer. Please note the new location is now Alfie Byrnes’ Pub.
Board Games Ireland holds their regular meetup at Alfie Byrnes and have been graceful enough to let us hold our event at the same time. This means you can also play other boardgames when you’re done testing!
GUIDELINES
If you are attending as a playtester, you will be invited to play prototype tabletop games and offer some thoughts afterwards. You should be honest but fair in your critique of a game. Recognize that some things will be wonky and unbalanced and that is fine in the early stages of development. Remember that you are not playing these games to win, but to help develop the game ideas. If you’re not sure what to focus your feedback on, ask the designer what they want to talk about. Most of all: have fun playing the games!
If you’re a designer, please bring down any of your designs and be open to receive new ideas and make changes on the fly. We are requesting that playtests of a single game be kept to no more than about an hour long. You should find that you don’t need to play your game to completion to get useful feedback. This also means we can play as many games as possible during the event.
