I don’t know if anyone’s seen this, but there’s a games engine for Java called the Java Monkey Engine (don’t ask, I don’t know either). It’s based on another engine called LWJGL (Lightweight Java Games Library). Both have some pretty nice games, nothing ground breaking, but not bad nonetheless.
Also, if I remember correctly, there was talk of swapping the underlying engine of Java3D with JOGL when it became sophisticated enough.
