I believe the PS3 frontend will be linux-based anyway, and the Graphics libraries OpenGL-based. Correct me if I’m wrong.
However, shipping a full O\S on the standard consumer console doesn’t fit with Sony’s track record, in my opinion.
The most pertinent example is the PSP. Sony continually builds more protection into each iteration of the system’s firmware, with the express intention of preventing homebrew development. Sure, there are game loaders and such, but they could simply deny Kernel-level access to unsigned code. Instead, they mask the data as corrupted and deny access.
