So the DSi has been released.

Apparently, Nintendo are shaping the latest device into being a completely unique experience – so much so that every kid will want their own — no sharing allowed.

What interested me was Iwata’s comments that if someone left the house without their DSi, they’d quickly go back to get, as they would a personal organiser, etc.

Users will be able to download new applications/software in a very Iphone like manner to their DSi. I wonder if this will be open to 3rd party apps. might be a nice opportunity for Indie developers.

Oh. and how long before I can get skype running on it!

And apparently there is talk of region-locking on the latest DSi…

According to Nintendo, any software designed specifically for the DSi will be region locked it seems. :?

Software specifically created for the Nintendo DSi will be region-locked, meaning that European software will only work on European consoles, and more importantly US and Japanese software won’t.

Update:Nintendo has told us that software is their term for everything these days, including games products, so it sounds like the DSi’s region-locking will be broad-based on all releases that require the new hardware.
