I was actually about to purchase an XBox 360 in the GAME store in Newry on Friday, but the manager wouldn’t look under the flap of the box to see if the machine was the new 150watt ( 12.1A ) model, which is meant to run cooler / quieter and have less problems with the red ring of death.

Their bundle seems pretty good ( XBox 360 Elite, Modern Warfare 2, and Ford Forza 3 ( http://www.game.co.uk/Consoles/Xbox-360/Xbox-360-Elite-Console-with-Forza-3-and-Call-of-Duty-Modern-Warfare-2/~r344758/ ).

I might pick it up in Belfast instead now, and get my dusty fragging skills back up and running ( btw has anyone played NoMis / Simon Hegarty in any of these types of FPS games? I’ve never seen anyone yet who was as lethally accurate with a mouse!!! )

      Mal

as a side note, there are a few of us up north still playing away at Donkey Kong – we’re actually about to build a cabinet!!! ( the non-wood parts are ordered )

Playing it on PC at the moment, but it doesn’t like my SLI 8800s in my laptop and stutters horrendously. I played a little on my desktop PC on Sunday where it ran perfectly on a single 8800, I’m really enjoying it – plenty of "Bruckheimer" moments and very polished.

      I’m on xbox 360… Can’t stop playing.
Love all the new additions to multiplayer.

I’m trying to decide whether to get it on PC or 360, what do you guys reckon?

You could use this handy tech shakedown from eurogamer to decide between 360 and PC: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-modern-warfare-pc-tech-comparison-article

(there’s also a pretty good analysis of the differences between PS3 and 360 there somewhere).

I played the singleplayer on Xbox; agreeably short and quite replayable, exceptionally polished and technically accomplished but utter narrative nonsense (unlike the first one which I though held together very well storywise).

It reminded me of the leap from Halo (compact sci-fi actioner) to Halo 2/3 (utter gibberish).

Agreed…I need to replay the game again, purely to try figure out what the hell the story actually was. I know people are tending towards not using cutscenes mid-game and trying to tell the story interactively, but telling the story on voice comms in the middle of a war zone? That was a bit much and I missed half of what was said.
Having said that, I thoroughly enjoyed single player, and I may be absolutely rubbish at multi-player, but am enjoying that all the same. Quality game with amazing production values.
A round of applause for the dev team involved from me.

Absolutely loved every Micheal Bay soaked second of the single player campaign and currently knee deep in the multiplayer side of things. Playing it on the PC at the moment and although I’m still miffed at the removal of dedicated servers, the system in place (IWNet) does seem to be coping admirably with the matchmaking side of things.

Oh and mal, you can check whether the unit you’re looking at is a Jasper model by simply checking the serial number area of the retail box and making sure it’s 12.1A. Double checking can be done by looking at the manufacturing date where any unit made in the latter half of this year will be a Jasper.

"The win was marginal with slightly better visuals, quicker loading times and a higher average fps on the Xbox 360. As stated before, you will not be disappointed with either version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2."
