Hi Guys,
Who would be up for a Games Jam on the 10th to the 12th of September? Down here in our office in Limerick?
Let me know if you’re interested and when, where and how suits you and we will try to make this happen :)
Cheers guys,
Here’s to pushing the Irish Games Industry into the forefront of the Global Market!

I think a Jam would be great, I have being thinking of trying to organize a Jam for the Winnitron pre launch so would could get some more games from Irish devs on it, I think a Jam with the machine present so everyone can test their games would be pretty fun. Maybe a strict 48 hr deadline would make things interesting.

Yeah Kyran,
It could be alot of fun – Maybe if people are up for doing it down here in our big meeting room we could try and sort something out with local accomodation to give us reasonable rates or something if we have a substantial amount of bookings… I will keep pursuing this, Cheers man,
Paddy M.

Sounds like a great idea paddy, the Flax Project team are defo up for it. What sorta date where you thinking? Also people reading this thread if your not following IGDA Ireland on twitter you should be!
If it was up in Dublin, we could probably get the Science Gallery or even Google, they are very supportive. Or down in your place in Limerick as you say would be grand to I’m sure.

I don’t really mind – But as I say we have a nice big space down here, can probably try and get group discounts in local accommodation and restaurants etc. We’re getting a lot of interest in it so I’m hoping to keep track of numbers – I’d say we can house maybe 70 people with desks, computers and stuff… Worst case scenario, I will see if UL will loan us some space
It’s gonna be a lot of fun, gonna see if Terry Cavanagh will come up with the theme for the Jam :D
All the best,
Paddy M.

So far its looking like a lot of Devs over on Twitter and stuff seem to want a 48 hour session – So we can probably run it from 12 A.M on Saturday the 10th all the way through to 12 A.M on Monday the 12th. What do ye think?

Hey Aphra,
A feature about the Sham Jam would be amazing for generating some extra interest –
The first bits of info about it are over here on Open Emotions webpage-

Cheers Aphra
@Kyran – Yeah man, whenever you can make it would be great and we test stuff on the Winnitron – Boo Yeah!!!

So, what formats does Winnitron support?
-
12/08/2011 at 4:36 pm #47278AnonymousInactive
We are doing our Winnitron game in C# (XNA) but I’d say Kieran and Ray are the men to answer this question for ye :)

Hi Owen, the Winnitron should boot up any windows .exe, I noticed you guys use Unity, a standalone exe build from Unity will work perfectly. The Winnitron launcher software is actually made in Unity.

Hey guys,
There seems to be some awesome interest in this – Trying to nail the specifics down. Does everyone want the 48 hour jam, or would a 24 hour jam suit people better? Just trying to ensure we get the most people possible!
Also the theme for the Jam is going to be Weather –
Is everyone down for that?
Kindest Regards,
Paddy M.

48 hours to bring the pain.
If it could be structured in such a way that people with 9-5’s can attend that would be awesome, but not a deal breaker if impossible.
-
22/08/2011 at 6:07 pm #47310AnonymousInactive
Yeah I’d say go for the 48hr jam and those that can’t do the 48hrs can just come for whatever length suits. As for the theme, I was thinking that since the goal is to create games to go on the Winnitron that it would be cool to have a wide variety of themes so that no two games clash and end up being similar. So maybe we write down a bunch themes and every person or team draws one from a "hat". That way everyone’s games will be very different and will all have their own space on the Winnitron. What you think?

It’s fantastic to see all the enthusiasm! :) I’m sure some great games come out of it.
Had hoped to make the trip but managed to rupture a disc in my back so I’m stuck on the couch for the next few weeks :(

Just stumbled upon this and thought it I’d share, Terry Cavanagh gives a talk on why he thinks game jams are important

Hey guys,
On to what Kyran said if you can’t make it for the full Jam, we’d still love to see you guys. We are trying to nail down figures as soon as we can, to ensure we have a:) the space or on the flip side of that b:) enough people to make a really awesome jam.
We will have a couple of artists on board and further to what Kyran was saying, yeah, we will probably have the artists come up with a number of themes, make a load of assets for them and then we will put the individual theme ideas into a hat and draw them as I think that will be a lot more fun and will allow people without any artistic talent the opportunity to have prepared assets. Same with the audio, which I will generate for people who want to use it…
Hey Moose – Its on at the weekend and leads into Monday morning but if you have work at 9 on Monday you can always finish up a littler earlier, if that suits…
Anyway, Due to awesome advice from John O Kane I will be setting up a Eventbrite page for this to try and get an accurate number on attendees!
Cheers guys, Super psyched about this :D

Hey Red,
That is totally understandable – My baby is due in 5 weeks as well so I completely empathize. I’m at least close to hand here for mine, so yeah, thanks for letting us know, showing your interest and hopefully we’ll be able to have another one of these in a few months where me and you can work on stuff and chat about our new kids ;)
Cheers Mate,
Paddy M.

Any thoughts on accommodation yet?
Is there anything near by?
-
25/08/2011 at 4:22 pm #47326AnonymousInactive
Hey Owen,
Yeah there is the carlton hotel just down the road – I can look into getting a group discount tomorrow. There are a few others near the office (Kilmurray Lodge hotel, The Travellodge etc.) so peeps should be able to find something but obviously if we can get reduced costs for people that would be ideal.
Cheers mate,
Paddy M.

Hi there,
Is the office space going to be open for the 48 hours straight? Can people
theoretically stay in for the whole time, have a nap in a sleeping bag while the artist/coder is doing what you can’t? Or do you close shop at a certain time, since the start is at midnight that seems unlikely, I guess having a room or two booked would be nice for a proper nap at some stage! -

What ever happened to the games that were created?
I believe they were to be put on the Winnitron machine?
If anybody wants the game we made "PickPickRevolutions", I still have the source…
