      Hi all,

I’m heading to Australia for a year and have been looking for games jobs over there for a while with no avail. However I’ve been offered the possibility of funding if I can come up with an idea of an educational game(have about a week to come up with ideas) and if its decent enough could be making that for my stay over there :D

The actual criteria for the game or games is loose enough :

Can be on almost any subject – Physics, Chemistry, Science in general, Languages, History etc..

Not sure of age range but would be below 14/15year olds I reckon

Most likely will be either a flash based online app or maybe a mobile game

Desirable to have different levels of difficulty and be able to grade performance

Not sure of the exact project length but I’m probably going to be working for 8 months there.

As the requirements are fairly broad I’m just looking to see if any of ye have any ideas/suggestions? I’ll then pitch a few ideas and if any of them are especially liked then I think it’ll go from there.

Only found out late last night but I’ve got a couple of ideas so far:

A variation on a brain training game, daily quiz of random questions to get an age, can take maths quizes, physics etc. not thought it out fully yet but you get the idea

A sort of pinball game where when you hit different targets they can get asked questions, correct answers can get extra balls + points, wrong ones make the game speed up or something.

A sort of adventure based game where a student must solve a mystery by talking to other characters in various languages, could test English grammar + phrasing, French-Spanish-German phrasing&verbs etc.

A join the dots approach to the night sky, students join the stars up to form constellations, zoom in and try to name the planets/stars- could involve something with the solar system too answering naming planets, number of moons, whether planets are gaseous or solid etc.. Not much of a game but could involve navigating a space-ship or something??!

Anyway as ye can see its fairly open, any ideas?

      Eddie

I think an adventure game could be mixed well with history.

E.g. explore the ancient pyramids to discover the treasure, by solving puzzles based on Ancient Egypt. Character Dialogue along the way could explain about the history of the civilisation…

An alternative could be a murder mystery or something like that based in a history museum. You could have a scenario and puzzles similar in nature to the Da Vinci Code.

One other idea I can quickly think of off the top of my head would be an small RTS based on a particular time period. think "Age of Empires educational edition".

      I hope this helps :)
