Sorry, I’d just feel a bit silly with a bendy gun.

But in all seriousness, I reckon half the buzz of knocking around with a gun, or gun battles in general is the popping around corners, risking your neck for a chance to pop a cap in some ass. (oo-er missus)

I think if you take away the risk, you take away the buzz.

Ranged weapons, like sniper rifles especially, are good for a few shots before you start to get bored. Take battlefield for instance. Sniper rifles are grand and fun for laying down cover for advancing troops but eventually you find yourself sitting on a hill with no friends wondering where all the fun is.

Take our friend here in the picture. I reckon he gets death from his friends about that gun. (His friends incidently refused to be in the picture).

And don’t get me started on that helmet.

A yes, the fun of risking getting your head blown off. I’m sure soldiers would go on strike if the military took away the “buzz”….. :P

LMAO  you don’t play sniper to make friends anywas, you know?
Battlefield guns suck anyway, it’s one of the few games where I truly dislike being a sniper (well, that and the fact my mates ban me from using sniper rifles in most games). Try OpFlashpoint for the best sniping around.

That said, I agree that having to bend around the corner hoping some bastard isn’t waiting to blow your head off is what makes things fun. Plus it teaches you a “real life” lesson I learnt in the Army manuals: always try to diminish your outline to the minimum possible. So like your guy here, go prone then take a peek. Or when behind sandbags, don’t pop up, look from the sides. Little things like that.

As for the gun, I don’t know. The bending is… unnatural :?

I like the asthetics of that gun, it’d look great in low poly and normal mapped

      So you’re a bit of a camper then philippe_J?

I agree with you on Battlefield 1942 guns being useless. But Desert Combat on the other hand has a really good balance with each backing up the role of the class type welding them.

I am a bit of a fan boy when it comes to Battlefield, especially Desert Combat.
Yes I have the under pants.

I like the way it has a beretta type handgun sitting in the top of it with a little switch to pull the trigger. Nice peripheral equipment for an ingame weapon, something like one of the upgrades out of Resident evil.

What a fantastic game OpFlash was. Best wargame I ever played, it gave the player so much freedom. I remember one mission where you had to take out some spetznas(?) with your sniper team. The idea was to camp up on a hill overlooking the base and take them out. Feck that I thought, so I looked at my map and found out that there was a barracks a few “clicks” away which had a Hind helicopter based there. So I hoped in my jeep, went to the base, took out the pilots and the anti-air defense crew, nicked the helicopter, flew to the other base and killed everyone with ease as they had nothing they could use to take me out. Very satisfying.
Can’t wait for the next one to come out.

hehe, I see I am not the only one salivating after reading PC Gamer’s article on Bohemia Studios, eh? Apparently Armed Assault is for the 4th Quarter of 2005. So that’s Christmas, I guess.

MooTV: I am not a camper. snipers who camp end up dead, and deservedly so. Although it depends who I am playing against and which game. Against newbs I’ll camp so that they get the satisfaction of tracking me and blowing me up. Otherwise against leet players who kick my ass, I’ll use every trick in the book to piss them off. The fools deserve it , especially those who consider using exploits and bugs as fair play.
I like sniping when I’m in a slower paced game like OpFlash, or when the map is obviously advantageous for a sniper (like in Cambodian Invasion in BFVietnam), but for a fast paced game like Quake 2, say, gimme my Force rune and my double shotgun and I’ll be a happy kamikaze :)
Better, give me a flamethrower  *drools*

I don’t play to win, I play to have fun.

I think it would suit stealthier games…sort of perfect dark…cause it has a lcd screen.

meh, I was only really posting the pic as a change from generic futuristic weapon #6445

well, they are probably generic for a reason.
Personally I like “realistic” designs. Like, there is a reason for every tidbit there, you know? I’ve been looking for submarines plans for quite some time now, as an inspiration for spaceship designs, but that kinda stuff is wild hard to find on the Net :?

Not that I would have ever looked or anything, but rumor has it that you can find all kinds of classified stuff like sub plans on http://www.globalsecurity.net I believe it is.

      Philippe_J,
far enough, you’re not as camp as a boy scout jamboree.

But back to the topic at hand. That gun.
Would probably suit something in a slower pace such as SWAT 4.
PLayed the demo the other day. A bit anal for my taste. I prefer my action more toe to toe.

Hrm, if memory serves me right the Israeli army were thinking about getting that gun, they pulled out of the deal though. Its a nice idea but in a combat situation I don’t think it would work the best…

As for applications in game, I’ve always preferred the “Lean” option with my normal gun. That said, the system they had in Kill.switch whereby you could use cover such as corners and crates effectivly was fantastic even if the game itself was abit muck..

Must resist urge to make smartass comment…….

Back to the gun, yeah, can’t really see it being very practical in the heat of a battle. Plus, aiming the thing could be a pain to get used too.

Anyone use the camera gun in Ghost Recon, same idea but you stuck the whole gun out, no bendy parts

Dunno about that, but the US Army is pretty generous with its field manuals and all. I learned sniping in Operation Flashpoint by reading the Sniper Field Manual from their online library, for a start :->
FAS is the best link I know when it comes to general stuff about military equipment.

Once I even found a scanned version of a WWII German submarine manual (with all the hydraulics/electrics etc. )

You gotta love the Internet :-)

As for that bendy gun, well, I don’t think it’s designed for “battle” as such.
You can see it’s a “simple” handgun, nothing fancy really. As for ease of use, well, I dunno, it seems to be designed to be used with the built in camera. I guess it’s takes getting used to, like anything else.
Wouldn’t run around proudly showing it off, though : the potential for slagging of this thing is just off the scales…
