HMV is now taking pre-orders for both the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Metal Gear Solid. But the 360 version isn’t due until five months later…

What is HMV playing at? I don’t think they know about games.

Game and HMV are both getting into a habit of allowing for pre-orders way before they even know the release date. I still don’t see the point. I’ve yet to walk into a store in the first week and be told the game is sold out.

Well a few people will always be willing to give them money up front and long before a release date has been confirmed. I will not comment on the intelligence of these people. Also even the mention of MGS4 will be enough to get certain people to walk into the shop. Odds are they will probably will buy something. Anything.

Unfortunately it’s a mistake…
"In his enthusiasm, one of our online games team indicated that hmv.co.uk would start taking pre-orders for MGS4 on Xbox 360, when, in fact, he simply meant to ask customers if they wished to receive an alert in the event of this title one day coming out on this platform," admitted the retailer to GamesIndustry.biz

I still reckon it’s only a matter of time to be honest. The only way it’ll stay exclusive is if the release of the game sparks a massive increase in PS3 sales. Given the current price however I doubt that’s going to happen. -

Time will tell I guess. I can see it selling a lot of machines, and especially with the price drop on the ps3’s that they are discontinuing in the US. In my opinion it will probably be a lot longer than 5 months between the releases though

I would love to agree…but I think this ‘MGS4 on 360’ business is as real as that Sega list going around saying Shenmue III will be unveiled at TGS. I would like it to of course, but it’s unlikely. It’s not been a week since rumours of MGS4 on 360 were quashed by someone high-up. Apparently the game was developed purely with PS3 architecture from too early on in the process.
MGS4 will sell. Hell, it’ll sell consoles. If it turns out it is a no go for 360 ever, it’ll even sell me a PS3.
God, if we got Shenmue III, MGS4, and Killzone and the Final Fantasies, I’d save meself 600 euro! :D
