I’m holding off until more AAA titles find their way onto the shelves. There’s enough quality games on the PS2/Xbox to keep me content right now.

Gears of war
Dead Rising
Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter (1&2)
Project Gotham Racing 3and the list goes on and on….
But seriously… Gears of War alone is a reason enough to own 360 and HDTV.

Hmm, I think Gears, Dead Rising and Viva Pinata are enough AAA titles before Halo 3 and GTA arrive. Probably more if you are into racing and FPS games (which I aint too much). Hope I get paid a decent amount this month, might splash out on one.
Question: Is this thread really about kyotid bragging that he got a PS3 for free? ;) :P

I think you should wait! I own both consoles so wait for halo 3 :D and the Ps3 will pick up one day :D xbox 360 is dieing

A note on the XBox360 failure rate, having worked around 12 X360s which were on constantly from 10-5 and in use most of that time I saw one failure and that was during a dashboard update. It was promptly sent off to MS who fixed it and sent it back to us asap. A number of my friends also have the console and none of them have any problems with it. Bearing that in mind I’d find it hard to even consider the "failure rate" of the console being be a factor in your decision as to whether you should buy it or not.
Eurogamer recently reviewed the new Elite version of the console and liked it alot, that said you’ll need that TV to really take advantage of the new HDMI port etc.. but any revision is a good revision in this case. Link

I’d say go for it. It’s a cool machine. I still have a standard def 30" TV that I play it on (for the moment at least) and it’s still great.
The thing is, Bioshock could still potentially be awful. So if you’re getting it for just that reason then i’d say no until it comes out.
But some other reasons to get one include:
xbox live
crackdown
viva pinata
gears of war
mass effect (in august)
texas hold ’em
GTA’s extra content that will come later on 360 exclusively (at the start, or else it will be different to the ps3’s)
Vibration in the controllers! -
24/06/2007 at 2:41 am #37415AnonymousInactive
viva pinata? you serious? i have that game i think its a waste. The Elite is a waste aswell get the xbox 360 vga connection has a better view that the 360 hdmi!
-

Play viva pinata for 2 or more hours and you’ll fall for it. So strangely strange and addicting. great stuff

there are already more than enought reasons to own a 360 and HDTV and more coming this yearm go for it. The TV will be good for your PS3 as well.
-
24/06/2007 at 11:53 am #37419AnonymousInactive
I’m still on my launch 360 and never had any problems with it.
What I’m waiting for is Mass Effect in august/september:
GTA4 coming soon is a nice bonus too and now that Devil May Cry 4 is being released on 360 there’s realy no need for me to buy PS3. -

The problem with the xbox 360 failures isn’t that they fail, its that if they fail, its not under warranty and you have to pay to get it fixed. Thats the biggest problem.

Yeah, I managed to overheat my xbox in work from repeated reboots, but like 27 reboots in 30 minutes will do that to many machines…
And with months of work that’s the only thing that broke the machine. (we work 10-6…)
Microsoft promptly sent me a new xbox, but i think the original one had cooled by 10am the next day and worked just fine.

My 360 has never even crashed or had any problem with it but I rarely get to use it. Of the very few people I know with 360’s, 3 of them have had to return their’s to be repaired and one person had to do it twice for two different faults.

There are soooo many stories of people I ‘know’ (real life and forums) who have had defective 360’s, maybe the elite (out in August) will fix some of this

Maybe for you sake i hope it does but i dont want elite its waste i prefer the vga than hdmi
-

Yes but for every person who have had problems you’ll find 10 (or more) that have had none. You can’t rely on random internet stories to influence your decision to by a console to that extent, if that was the case I’d have surgically attached the Wiimote to my hand to ensure it doesn’t fly through my TV at this stage.
Ola, why do you prefer the VGA to the HDMI? You realise that the latter provides the best picture quality? :?

If it escalates to being prime time tv, on Watchdog on the BBC complaining about the matter, I think you can.
Its the same as if someone told you a brand of TV was a bit rubbish. Its a comsumer’s market these days and if MS aren’t looking after their consumers, they’re going to take a hit. They’re doing okay now because of the PS3 high price point, but if that comes down and MS are still annoying their consumers, it could be a down-hill slide… -

Xbox Live is a plus?? I didnt renew my subscription because I was sick to death of hearing high pitched preteens shouting noob or some other such drivel.
I can’t see the euro elite being any different than the one currently on sale in the US. The xbox products would be great if they could fix the compatibility, stick wireless into the elite and for crying out loud get quiet DVD players and not the tractors they have in them now.
-
27/06/2007 at 3:55 pm #37467AnonymousInactive
I know the Elite is not perfect either, but I have to get one of them…so might as well be that (unless they reduce the price of the premium)

Ok my final reply on this topic! The ps3 is only lossing because of its price point. The 360 i lots of games the upcoming games looks great. So i would recommend the core version. I am bord of the 360 though, come on I have to pay to play with mates on XBL.
Coming from some1 that has 360 and ps3!
-
27/06/2007 at 11:51 pm #37474AnonymousInactive
Aye but wasn’t there talk that the PSN could pay to play as well? I still have my doubts the but if Elite is what you want I’d wait a month or two after release and see what happens.
Its surprising the number of 360 hardcore fans I know who’ve started talking about getting a PS3, a few months ago you couldn’t say a word about the PS3 without it getting shot down. Its a funny old world.

Haze is a third party title, isn’t it? He said third party. Although I think he was talking about exclusives, because neither Time Crisis nor Uncharted are first party, they’re third party.
Haze does look great, I too am a big Free Radical fan.

Hmm, this sound almost too bad to believe. What sort of illegal activities are taking place on your 360? 360’s don’t brick under normal conditions…
A number of my friends have 360’s and never had a complaint, and when I buy one I’m sure I will be the same. Kyotid, MS have just recently extended the 1 year warranty to 3 so go for it mate! Buy one from Harvey Normans…220 euro for the Core unit! :D

E3 07: Konami mulling multiplatform MGS4
"Japanese publisher doesn’t expect a "substantial impact" from $100 PS3 discount, says game’s exclusivity is in question.
Kitaue no doubt would like a cheaper PS3 in order to spike sales of the machine and have a larger installed user base in place for Konami’s highly anticipated PS3 exclusive Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. However, the executive said Konami might have to bring the series to non-Sony systems in order to make its development money back. "First Devil May Cry 4 and now MGS 4, … it’s not looking good for Sony.

Actually what he said was "Epic’s Unreal Tournament 3 is confirmed as a PS3 exclusive this year." Which basically means another delayed release on the X360, hardly platform killing news. -

Oh of course, thats another reason why I don’t see it as a big thing either way, that said thats just me. Halo 2 went down pretty well online right? ;)
It is a different type of game to UT3 though so maybe the faster paced gameplay of the latter won’t suit the consoles, only time will tell I guess. You wouldn’t buy Gears for the PC? I guess I’m abit biased in that I’m a PC gamer but I’ll still pick it up assuming a) its not Vista only b) its not DX10 only c) they don’t mess with the gameplay mechanics too much. On the other hand due to the power of some of the weapons and the advantage of the mouse and keyboard combo I can see them having to do something, perhaps decreasing the one-hit power of some weapons or even introducing a sniper shake effect to make it more difficult to aim once zoomed in.
-
13/07/2007 at 12:27 am #37687AnonymousInactive
Yeah I wouldn’t like it on the PC, and I’m a huge PC gamer too!
The extra content looks great though, I wonder would they put it up as an expansion pack on live later on in the year. hmm
are all those ‘games for windows’ games heading quickly towards vista exclusive a la halo 2?
-
13/07/2007 at 8:57 am #37690AnonymousInactive
Nope not yet, from those that have been released so far only Halo 2 and Shadow Run have been Vista only and given their poor sales I’d be surprised if MS made the same mistake with Gears.
