InactiveYep, he’s at it again, this time he’s going after Microsoft for their impending release of Halo 3.

Somehow I don’t think he’ll fare much better now than he ever did.

InactiveOh here is another good one, a little old but funny as hell. I like this guy, nobody really takes him seriously and his weird statements really do make me giggle.

My favourite line
"This is generally the case: movie + shooter games = massacre."

InactiveThere will always be nuts in the world, I like them stupid and incompetent like our friend jack. Yeah he throws around crazy claims, but given the madness that is U.S law it highlights his inabilty by the simple fact that he has never won a case against a games company. I think he claims he "sucessfully sued Best buy" but i dont think it cost them any money or did them any damage. They just said that they would enforce an already existing policy of not selling mature games to kids. Hardly a landmark case.

InactiveGreat :D
But I don’t see it doing any good to be honest. They did the same thing in the early 90’s and he 20k out of them in damages. Jacko’s like a cockroach we never going to be rid of him.

InactiveI can’t say that I’m too surprised. Thompson has always been somewhat deranged. What’s dissapointing is that many involved with the games industry have humiliated themselves by sinking to his level. We’ve really suffered a lot of damage because of him. He’s been very successful in getting reactions out of us and making us look like the violent thugs he claims us to be.

InactiveHas he though? I don’t remember any stand out moments with any developer really sinking to his level (except the whole R* there is no hot coffee in the PS2 version affair). Is any company just supposed to take serious and repeated legal challenges on the chin?

InactiveIt’s a good point, John. Having a lawyer take endless cheap shots at you would be frustrating to say the least. Still, the best way to handle it is to shrug it off and get on with business. If you’re business is being damaged by his accusations then you’re obviously going to have to react. As you pointed out, Rockstar have a lesson to learn from. But my main gripe isn’t with the developers themselves. They have for the most part handled it with decency. Its more with fanboys who post death threats and the few online journalists who go after his private life. People read this stuff in The Sun and think that everyone in the games industry are nutcases after all. It’s not a good image and it makes it harder to defend the industry against politicians who are looking for any excuse to rant about the affect it has on children/society.

It ended two weeks ago mate :)
that said knowing Thompson’s knowledge of said law he probably thinks they are.[/quote:e47a2be8cb]
True enough. I haven’t had much exposure to this idiot; I have heard a lot about him but this is actually the first time I have read actual statements from him. What are twit he must be. Someone should actually force him to take a gun course and then make him play Halo and ask him if he thinks a videogame would actually equip someone with the know-how involved with firing a gun. I’ve played through many violent games (not because they are violent) including Halo and I wouldn’t really have the first clue about using a real gun. This guy is just an internet ranter with a lawyers licence who is an extremist. Wasn’t he recently forced by some court to undergo psychiatric evaluation?
If anyone has a link to a collection of stupid things Thompson has said, I’d like to read it :)
