InactiveStarting this one early since it might take some time to organise.
Its been discussed a few times, so lets see if there is enough real interest. I can sort out a LAN night, starting about 11pm and going on till 8am. We can meet somewhere around the usual 7.30, have a few drinks (not too many of course) and head up after.
We will need at least 15 interested people, and if you commit to coming, I will expect payment whether you show or not (I’ll have to pay a deposit before the night happens).
There will be a maximum of about 20 places.
Sign up here, and if there is interest over the next 1-2 weeks, Ill look at booking the cafe.

InactiveDNC does not book out weekend evening at the moment (at least last time I checked). Wired on Aungier street are under new (and more positive) LAN management, and I was thinking for there.

Also interested though depends on the date.
Make sure to check that they have cleaned up the basement – last time almost a quarter of the pcs were disconnected around the place :/
Also Ive been on to them recently about regualar lan nights and Ive been given a price for the DCU Games Soc for 10 euro from 10pm – 9am and give payment on the night which is an improvement on our previous arangment with them.

InactiveSounds like a plan. Have to be on a weekend though if you want any of us Muffians to make it down. Be interesting to see how 4 hours boozing affects the old hand eye coordination!
I can almost hear Ride of the Valkyries booming from the helicopters in Battlefield Vietnam already. Eh… actually I can – Pete and Aaron are playing it here behind me.
So what games have we got?

InactiveMost certainly be up for this…. as chris says however a weekend would be super!
Aungier Street has a rake of good pubs close anyway so it’d be spot on.
DNC is handy as you can Lan upstairs…..take a break and go down to the Bleedin Hoss for a few…. then come up again full of drunken bravado and whiskey agression. I do assume we’re not playing the Care Bears game or something right?!?
Long time since I was at an all night LAN
Nice!

Keymasteryes, just the 31st will be the bank holiday I guess so some people might be away that weekend…and I was just thinking we could also think of organising the ‘LAN shindig’ for when you are over…..(I think the idea is the shindig will be a LAN party this time for a change and if there is enough interest)
Anyway, just a suggestion and Dave is the one organising this at the moment..

If I don’t make it, be sure to post the winners up on the board. :)

KeymasterSo what’s the craic with this?
If the LAN night is going ahead, maybe might be worthwhile to organise a non-lan shindig for the same night, and then those attending the LAN night can head from the pub to the internet cafe? Just means that people who aren’t available/interested in the gaming session can also get out.

Yeah Dave, but you remember from the Netsoc nights that the Wired machines had big problems running Battlefield well, which doesn’t inspire confidence in their ability to run Doom 3, considering you need a NASA supercomputer to play the damn thing. Still, 16 player Halo is always great craic, wonder what it’s like running around Blood gulch half (ok very) pissed

InactiveThe wired machines are fine for 1942? Were you jsut ona bad machine? AFAIK they are all ~1.8 gig 512 ram 128mb geforce cards (though I could be off on this).
I thought people just got bored with 1942, esp when there are only about 10-15 players.

No, the last thing you want for a community site like this is to be flooded by people who it isn’t aimed at, I’ve seen it happen before when communities can be taken over when the name was attached to an event. A retailer sponsoring the event is fine, but I personally think that GD.ie should stick to it’s roots for the time being.

-
July 28, 2004 at 3:26 pm #13651
Jamie Mc
KeymasterI had a look at the site, and I met Jazz at the Microsoft Games Challenge, and he seems to have his head on his shoulders and looking at the names signed up as sponsors he seems to be doing nicely for himself anyway. It’s more of a case that you don’t want 13 and 14 year old fanboys flooding the site with crap, it would put me off using the forums anyway.
So can we have a date/time/place so we can get a shindig notice up on the front page, and so I can stick it in my diary?
Cheers

It wouldn’t necessarily be the right kind of publicity, and with the wide range of general gaming forums available, I really believe that here should do what it says on the banner, be for developers and related people.

It was a savage laugh, we were playing 4-player Power Stone 2 on the DC and 4-player Virtua Tennis, I nearly pissed my pants on a few occasions, whata great time, anyway my point is that the presence of alcohol was greatly appreciated the other night, we wouldn’t have had half the laugh without it. *FIGHT*

InactiveTradition dictates that we all meet in a pub style location in or around 7pm in order to drink orange juice and contemplate the meaning of games. The venues of late have been Toners, any chance.
I’ve still yet to get confirmation from Wired that they can host the LAN, but will do my best to confirm it by monday. If not, we could just try and *socialise* in one of those late bars they have for drunk people.

KeymasterHi all,
sorry I wasn’t there Sat…some family stuff to attend to down the country..Also a pity I didn’t get to give Ivan his ‘sprinter’ award personally, but apparently he was pretty pleased with it!
I would say we will have a shindig towards the end of September – depending on how dates work out with people. We will also have to see if the present format and location is ok with people. While in August people will certainly be on hols etc..if the low numbers continue we may have to think about doing something else
