      Megadrive carts held up to about 5MB right. Why does an iphone conversion of a popular megadrive game run to 111MB???

      Graphics may need to spruced up a bit but that figure is nuts. What did the megadrive guys do that can’t be replicated today or are those skills lost?

      320×224 megadrive, 320 x 480 iphone.

      Could be additional FMV, audio or voice over files? Still, 111mb is very large for an iPhone game and will probably turn some people off buying it.

      Download size can be an important factor in getting people to download your app. It definitely helps if you can fit under the 10mb download limit on 3G networks so people can grab your app while they’re out and about.

      Game is Earthworm Jim. Sonic for iPhone is only 2.4MB.

      earthworm jim’s a great game – right up there with rayman (IMO).

      The ipa is just a zip file; you can use 7-zip or the like to look inside it. The ipa files are stored in your iTunes folder in the Mobile Applications directory. So you might see some obviously large audio files or the like.
