I’ve heard mixed things about it, so I’m holding off for the moment.
Got Full Spectrum Warrior at the weekend, really enjoying it. Especially when I have the 5.1 turned up really loud and there is a hectic gunfight going on! ;) -

*jealous thoughts plague omega’s mind*
try Halo on 5.1, I imagine it would be wicked.

Halo is pretty good on 5.1, however I am not a big fan of the sound effects in Halo. I think the assault rifle lacks the punch it should have, sound wise. It sounds very….erm….muted and dull.
I also HATE the frag grenades sound effect………..
When you play a game like FSW with 5.1 you can really see the differance, the grenades in that made me literally jump when I heard it for the first time!
There is nothing like ordering your grenadier to fire an M203 round at an enemy hiding behind a car, hearing the thump as its released, watching it fly through the air, hearing the whizzing noise it makes and then watching the car fly apart – all with a satisfying “whoop-bang”……great stuff. Or when you order you fire team to lay down some suppressing fire and they all let loose….the sound effects are incredible! -

I wasn’t that displeased with Halo’s audio performance, But then again i’m not a military advisor and would find it hard to distinguish a real grenade sound and a not so real one.
my knowledge of military abreviations is limited too Nooptical so what the hell is a M203????????? -
28/06/2004 at 3:16 pm #13007AnonymousInactive
M203 = Under barrel grenade launcher. You know the ones, the round tube thing under the barrel of an M16 rifle?
My distaste with the sound effects in Halo is nothing to do with them not sounding like real world weapons…….sure Halo doesn’t even use real world weaponry! ;) Its just I though the sound effects where of poor quality. They sounded low quality to me.

These images are all well and good but I’d like to see the game now.
I don’t think it’ll disappoint me even if its the same as the first (which it won’t) but its time to start showing us the game now Bungie please thank you.

Ya those screens aren’t the best, but surely towards the end of the summer will see a few more “concrete” screens available to the public. But I can understand Bungies concerns, after all the game is heavily reliable on story and showing even 1 Screen could give away everything. Apparantly, reading from X-Box Gamer this month the majority of the game isn’t based on Earth with levels taking place on the Earth’s own satelitte “the Moon” and another Ring World, aswell as the possibility of finally reaching the Covenant home world. Aswell as all this there is supposed to be developing friction between the covenant leader “the Prophets” and the coventant Military Generals “the Hunters”………all will be revealed soon. Well Nov 9th.

I don’t know if its just those picture but speculation now is that its one hit kills once your shield is down :( (so no health packs and the possibility of no head shots)
This has rocked me to the core…..

I don’t know about that, it would be a contradiction in Bungie’s game Design theory to take that Shield element out of the game, afterall the “15 minutes of fun repeated” theory is heavily based on the fact that a good player is very hard to kill. Taking away the health would almost certainly remove this factor.
But as you said yourself it’s only speculation at this stage, although I have a feeling There will be a few surprises waiting for us in the finished code, we’ll have to wait and see.

There’ll be no anti-hyping in this thread.
In truth though the only level that felt tired in the original (in my opinion) is the library which I now enjoy for mindless adrenaline shotgun-o-fun.
A spralling level like the control room (replayed in the Two Betrayals) although containing identikit repeating indoor segments is brilliant, you know the layout of the room but its taking care of what’s in them.
Sort of like a good football game, the pitch never changes but the games always play out differently.

On the Halo2 theatrical trailer the URL at the end momentarily changes to ‘www.ilovebees.com’
Go to the website (ILoveBees ) and check it out for yourselves…..
(but what does it mean, checking the corrupted images in wordpad gives tiny text snippets which make a story?)
-
24/07/2004 at 7:18 pm #13607AnonymousInactive
Full story from the text snippets found here: http://bees.netninja.com/wiki/index.php?title=Story
The site has more info.
Apparently there more to this, but it is all very crpytic. -

OK, that ilovebees thing is super freaky. Has anyone actually read the whole site. Deja vu from the insert in a Radiohead album! Maybe the Microsoft marketing department has hired Thom York…. Or put a whole load of monkeys on methadone and locked them in a room full of typewriters!

God its late :o
Phase 2 on ilovebees is complete! ‘This medium has metastasized.’
What does it mean? Well a new fuX0r3D page!
Hit the links and and refresh and stuff for pretty messes :)
Theres also some new text hidden, which I have interpreted in my own special way but I won’t post it, spoiler-proof.

So a little bit of closure:
The ilovebees final stage completed yesterday. I think basically what is was, was that the coordinates on it were payphones throughout the US and at the final stage coordinates were accompanied by a name and a time.
Being at the payphone at the right time it would ring and by giving the right name (Melissa), position (Operator) and codeword (the name with the coordinates) the AI on the other end would take your name.
So the story was that an AI (like Cortana, possibly a shard of Cortana) crash landed on earth and was generating a communication network through any means possible (someones bee website) and used it to rebuild a platoon (the people who answered the phones.
So the general thing is all those who got the calls right opened a bunch of new files on ilovebees (conversation snippets) and have their names put in as marines in Halo2 (like what happened with Metal Gear Solid 2 and Twin Snakes.
I think thats it. A very cool augmented reality game. I’m super excited about Halo2 :D
