We worked alot to get the game where it is now. I think the progress we made has been clear over the public showings this year.
I honestly can say I cant wait for Sega Revo too!
I think they are a different kettle of fish :)

true true.
Nah definately alot of work has went into MS. Ye took alot of flak back at E3 2005 because of the renders and no-one thought ye could live up to that. But i gotta say the stops have been pulled out and its looks pretty much exactly as ye said it would. Now we just have to get our hands on ps3’s to play it.

Engadget.
While playing Motorstorm, a collective shout of surprise and delight came from onlookers as a crashing vehicle shot into the air, off of a cliff, and landed onto another in a graphically stunning and physically realistic way. If Sony can capture that level of enthusiasm consistently, it will be ready to rumble.[/quote:94c402ac22]

EUROGAMER:
MotorStorm (7th December)
Lampooned, originally, after Sony’s preview footage at E3 2005 turned out to be a load of old cut-scene (something that put the early, otherwise reasonable screenshots into sharp and unfair contrast), MotorStorm actually emerges as one of the most entertaining of the batch of games handed over along with our debug PlayStation 3. A traditional circuit racer, it introduces elements of ATV games, and titles like Twisted Metal and Destruction Derby, and also boasts canny track design and a certain visual opulence that – while nowhere near the quality of the original footage – still manages to keep pace with the peaks of next-gen development elsewhere.[/quote:52e835c4ca]http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=69776&page=2

It should be no secret that I love Sony and Evolution Studios’ MotorStorm. I’ve gushed about the dirty racing game in previous updates, much to the dissatisfaction of the Sony-hating crowd on Kotaku. Sorry, kids, but this game is good. And it’s freaking gorgeous. And, yes, it looks better with every new batch of screens.

We are number 1 in the Japanese PS3 charts
Japan: 1. MotorStorm (SCEI), 2. Resistance: Jinrui Botsuraku no Hi (SCEI), 3. Ridge Racer 7 (Namco), 4. Kidou Senshi Gundam: Target in Sight (Bandai), 5. Miyazato San Kyoudai Naizou: Sega Golf Club (Sega).
MotorStorm makes a strong impression in Japanese PS3 sales in the days following its release, despite its lack of online play and middling scores from Famitsu. Otherwise, both the U.S. and Japan continue to see the biggest sales among heavy-hitters like Resistance: Fall of Man and Madden NFL 07.[/quote:898b3090b6]

Weird PS3 baby advert:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJaGScKpZuU%5B/quote:9623f05565%5D
Oh no.. Not again… This just brings back memories of the weird ads we had around PS2 launch time :)
Don’t Sony realise that the vast majority of the public just don’t get these weird ads, and whatever hidden / complex meanings they are supposed to contain ? Or I am I missing the point here- are they just weirdness for the sake of getting attention ? :D
Nintendo seem to have a lot more visibility this time round though. I hope the ads for the Wii start getting round to people because they really deserve every bit success they get. They really are trying as hard as they can to improve gaming and invent new and interesting ways of playing. Kudos to good old Ninty!

It’s been around a month now that the PS3 got ushered into Japan. Among the launch titles they had lined-up, Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire was one of them. Some of us know how the entire Gundam franchise has such a solid fan-base in Japan. So, given that, it comes as one heck of a surprise that the top-selling title in their country right now is actually MotorStorm!
What’s surprising about this? 1)Gundam came out during launch and MotorStorm just only a few days ago. They beat a game which had a few weeks’ advantage! And 2) Evolution Studios is based in UK, and now they’re topping international charts with their high-octane racer. You’d think that the Japanese would support Japanese-developed games like Gundam more than that of UK? Not necessarily, and this is proof of that!

Really, there are very, very few racing titles (or even games in general) around that deliver as engaging an experience as MotorStorm. There’s really no better way to put it than that.[/quote:c4ff5e6549]
Sony has jump-started its newest racing franchise in a fantastic way. Yes, the limited number of tracks and gameplay options hold it back quite a bit, but the fundamental racing is incredible. The variety in vehicle types is great, the track designs are awesome and the online is extremely fun. We simply cannot wait for a sequel.[/quote:c4ff5e6549]

Played motorstorm in the basement of HMV on grafton street earlier today. Seems really really nice. Controls really well and the track really is like another main character of the game. I was playing it on a huge HDTV though.
PS3 is SHINY
-
18/03/2007 at 3:53 am #36075AnonymousInactive
SHINY as HELL!! 8) If they add a few more games as fun as motorstorm to the line up that dont appear on the 360 i’m really going to have to invest in a PS3. The part of me responsible for money really hopes they dont
-
18/03/2007 at 9:42 am #36076AnonymousInactive
Personally i think forza looks pretty average. As for DIRT its hard to comment, all the screens released so far are clearly renders..
Personally i think ye should hold out until Autumn for Sega Rally Revo, coming to both 360\ps3 and it definately gonna be more fun… :) Take a look at the screens, 90% of them are in game shots.. Also gotta love track deformation and how your handling is going to be effected and different on every lap.. (plug over)

You notice some very strange behaviour in the players and the extrapolation of cars\bikes. Serious lag.
Also you bought a next-gen console and got no online, thats gonna blow. Make sure you sort that in time for Sega Rally, online is gonna rock with it.
-
26/03/2007 at 2:21 pm #36204AnonymousInactive
I imagine PS3 online ‘experience’ will be a better in 6, 9, 12 + months time…I guess that PS3 Home service will make it a smoother process.
Having said that, most reviews\forum post I see seem to enjoy MotorStorm online…but hey-ho.
I’ll be good to see the new Sega Rally game, if its as good as I hope it then I’ll pick it up for X360 (…unless I get a free PS3 in the mean time :p)
Bruuuum Brum!

I played it there on launch day, great fun, but as has been mentioned, the motion controls are unusable. I enjoyed it, but the environments fail to impress immediately, especially the outcrop of rock upon which the cars in the vehicle select screen roll, it’s very blurry and polygonal… I was expecting something a bit more real, from the screenies.
Also, who’s idea was it to load the models of the cars from disc every time you change car? If caching wasn’t an option, then I’m sure people wouldn’t mind looking at a 2d picture of the car, rather than waiting 10+ seconds for the car to load _every_ time.
That said, the game is a blast, and if the graphics don’t impress immediately, they certainly do given time. when there are vehicles vying for position ahead of you, and your windscreen’s getting dinged by pieces of metallic debris, and the mud is caking on your bonnet, as you pass between two vertiginous pillars of beautifully rendered rock, you can’t help but be impressed.
Aside from a few odd design decisions, well done, team Motorstorm!
