In case anyone is interested, Sony have anounced that devkits for the PS3 have been cut from $10,250 to $2000.
It’s still a bit much for a student or hobbyist, but should be much better for smaller / indie studios.

It’s interesting to see price drops. If I remember correctly the Wii SDK costs about 2000 USD too.

Unfortuately, they wouldnt give them to hobbyist or students even if they had the dosh. Indie’s etc might even struggle.
