The Finance Bill was published yesterday and the details of the new R&D tax credit system were outlined. I’ve only read the newspaper reports on it so far which suggest it is fairly restrictive in its current form. IF anyone has more info on it let me know.
The reason this might be important is that in the UK TIGA is lobbying to have game development defined as R&D and therefore eligible for tax credits…

the Forfas “Electronic Games Study” published this week also recommends the inclusion of R&D tax breaks for game development

Hi Aphra, Tony,
Is the Forfas report generally available? I would like to get my hands on a copy.
Thanks,

Similar, as would both my parents funnily enough. Any chance of a copy this evening? :)

Forfas seem to publish all their papers on their site (forfas.ie), but I it’s not up there yet.

I have one copy which was sent to me by Forfas. There is no mention of it as yet on their website under publications so I don’t know if they are making copies generally available. However Tony might have a spare copy or else we can discuss other options!

Tony does indeed have a spare copy:)
will photocopy and send on to you, Alan – can you email/PM me your address? Alternatively, if you’re up tonight for the Lionhead talk in Trinity, let me know and I’ll copy it before tonight
Dave, I’ll bring along the spare copy for you tonight

Hi Tony,
I’m afraid I can’t make it up to the big smoke tonight, full day tomorrow with the SBSP starting at NUIG.
I just emailed you my address, thanks a million for offering to send it on.

Forfas have contacted me to say that they will NOT be making the Electronic Games report available in PDF on their site. Apparently, not all reports are made publically available. No reasons other than that were given.
Given that the industry is in its infancy – relatively speaking – in this country, and given also that this report has the potential to be very influential, I’m disappointed by their stance.

I would have to agree, it is disappointing.
I don’t understand what is to be gained by not having it publically available. I would be very interested to hear their reasoning.
