Suprised there is no thread here for this game, not least because it is amazing.

Forget the videos, which are pretty misrepresentative, it’s is fascinating.

Heard it uses goal orientated action planning for the AI which is what I’m planning on researching/developing for my MSc so should probably have a look :)

Yeah I was thinking of starting a thread myself but just been too damm busy playing the game. :) I was quite suprised by it though.. The AI appears to be doing all that they said it would do, it isn’t just marketing material with no substance. Its actually quite good fun just walking around the game (going into David Attenborough mode :P) and just watching the creatures etc. , seeing what they do next. The whole world feels really dynamic and every creature seems to have its own agenda.

Like last night (I’ve only really just started into the game) I was clearing this factory of bandits and then the friendly (well non hostile at least) soldiers turned up from the village (where you start off in) and assisted me in the firefight. Anyhow we killed all the bandits and the boys set up camp there. A few minutes later then another group of bandits started coming up the road, pissed that their factory had been taken and another fight ensued. We held off the bandits but during the fight I noticed that a pack of about 6 or 7 irradiated dogs became interested in what was going on (there was lots of dead bodies lying around) and got in to take a closer look. Anyhow once the dogs got in too close, both our soliders and the bandits started firing at them, and then deciding the risk wasn’t worth the reward- the dogs made their way off quickly into the forest. Anyhow the bandits were defeated again and all was quiet for a while. As I was walking up the road then I noticed what appeared to be the corpse of an enemy soldier. One of the soliders who had helped me was passing by and suddenly stopped by the corpse, muttered something, and pulled out his gun and shot at the corpse. Turned out the guy wasn’t actually dead after all, just wounded, and the other soldier had callously executed him. That was pretty cool.. :) Later on then when I returned to the factory we had taken, I noticed a few bandits had sneaked into one of the buildings and he fired at me from the window. The soldiers from the village were still there but were off their guard, sitting around the campfire telling stories. On hearing the shots though, the soldiers sprang into action and went out to see what the commotion was about. More bandits arrived on the scene and vastly outnumbered the soldiers so I decided to flee and leave them to their own devices. 8) On my way back to the safety of the village a hill beside a railway bridge (that had previously been unoccupied) was now teeming with patrols of hostile military guys. I had to fight my way through before I could get back to safety but eventually I made it.

All that happened within the space of about half an hours playing.. But I have to say of what I have seen so far I have been very impressed by it. Without all this advanced AI and behaviour I think it would just be an above average FPS at best, but with I think it becomes something much much more. The entire world feels really volatile and the situation around you is constantly changing- you never feel really safe or at ease. I like this a lot, it keeps you on your toes and keeps things interesting.

If any of you have the game, be sure to post up any interesting stories you have of stuff you’ve seen or been in a part of in the game. As I said half of the fun of Stalker is just watching things unfold and the characters go about their own business, and live out their own little miserable virtual lives in this irradiated hellhole.. :P

Yeah it takes ages to install too. Worth it though!

Off the top of my head I think the minimum requirements are:

      P4 2.0Ghz,
      512MB Ram,
Radeon 9600 or equivalent graphics card,
Oh and the 10GB of space too.. :)

This game is amazing. Can’t believe how much there is to do. I’m only an hour or so playing it so I’m sure I’ve tons of crazyness ahead.

AI is unreal. And at full specs it’s insanely nice looking!

      Gotta get back to it.
