      It’s a different approach, I give you that :)

I wonder if it will come under any moral scrutiny for the advertising promoting it as more violent than GTA4?

      looks awesome!

I got the first game and stopped playing after about 3-4 hours, as it was a GTA wannabe which didnt quite make it. Although from the looks of this one, they’ve had alot more fun making the game and not trying to be a clone but expanding the genre.

I may just pick it up.

      ??
So they lamblast all of the potentially boring stuff in GTA and show all the good bits, the bits that were done well in GTA and try to sell the game off that. I don’t get it…its still just a GTA wannabe isn’t it.

That pretty much sums it up all right.

GTA will take some beating, I don’t think Saints Row 2 is the game to do it.

      Maybe this though…..

Ahaha mafia..lol.. your kidding me right??…

As for Saints Row 2, I have no doubt it wont sell anything near as much as GTA IV. But if it sells 10% of what GTA did it will be a commerical success, good news for studio and publisher

No! Theres a very positive preview of Mafia 2 in this month’s Edge, check it out

The first Mafia was actually quite a well made and scripted game, I remember really enjoying it. It had a lot of bugs and a really annoying [and pointless] race car section in it, but it is regarded by many as a flawed masterpiece.

Mafia isn’t GTA beating, purely because it is not a GTA game.
Look at the original. It had a city, but you weren’t allowed the freedom to roam that a GTA game gives. It was a linear story with some roaming. Maybe the sequel will have more freedom, but there will still be a speed limit enforced in the city :(

Edge give it a pretty bad Preview ( its still very buggy like the first game, and they didn’t think it would be fixed for launch, that was before they delayed it till by 2 months). But I posted the same video at our site, I thought most replys would be slagging it or saying how GTA is so much better. But no, every comment says that GTA does have too many boring bits and SR2 looks more fun. Well done PR

Did anyone else notice the inclusion of some "rim-lighting" like effects in the video footage.

Scrub ahead in the trailer to 0:44 => 0:48, and look at the edges around the monster trucks and the biplane.

      Am I seeing things?

      Looks good.

Its going on the game list.

I like the way its taking little toungue in cheek pops at GTA’s mechanics and stuff, hopefully they’ll go more that way and less trying to be a direct clone.

Oh and they better have some new bugs in it, the bugs in the first one were hilarious!

You do realise the game has been in production for a while, so the trailer is purely pointing out the ‘flaws’ of GTA and showing the good bits of their game…pure marketing. Their game isn’t any different from what it was going to be, its only their marketing has changed. If you liked GTA, this will probably be the same only less.
Didn’t play the first game, doubt I’ll play this one, not even sure if I’ll play GTA…

Yes….i do like to think I can notice when I’m being marketed at thanks!
I just commented on the cool choice of marketing, and that it was a good idea

      Analyst: "Pompous"

Said the analyst who probably hadn’t played either game in the first place.

The video makes it look like a generic GTA-clone with an arcade slant on it. Maybe they will try to play up its strengths and develop its own brand, but right now there’s nothing I can see that will make it a great game. It may have come a long way from the original Saints Row, but it’ll be lacking even further behind now that Rockstar have jumped from the GTA III engine to the GTA IV engine.

But can Saints Row inspire stories like this?

Eh.. Maybe. They should give this guy a fee copy and maybe some help.
