Fascinating. This artist was also interviewed in the last edition, I believe, of 3d world.

On another note, and without wishing to hi-jack this thread, does anyone know the name of the artist who created the promotional artwork for the upcoming and the previous GTA titles (like these)?

His (or her) style seems to be improving for this release, and I think it’s a wonderful and versatile technique.

I attempted something similar for a viral marketing project this week. I used Flash to create the vector lines (much quicker workflow than Illustrator), as I wanted that smooth, clean line effect. Then I exported every layer as a AI file, and brought them individually into Photoshop, where I could recomposite the image. From there, its a simple matter of tweaking the transparencies and creating adjustment layers to get that wonderful luminosity he achieves. I’ll post it on Monday for your comments.

I would love to see some more of his work.

Anyone have any favourite game artists they admire (promotional, concept or texture, not 3d gurus)?

      Yeah, Yoji Shinkawa

His work is instantly recognisable from the Metal Gear Solid games and Zone of the Enders. I also love the work of Feng Zhu, http://www.artbyfeng.com, incredible concepts.
