InactiveActually I was rather chuffed to be asked to sign an NDA for the first time a few weeks ago, I felt like I was finally getting there with this whole games business.
But yes I understand how restraining it could feel.
I get the feeling you’re trying to tell us you’re working on something cool.

InactiveI’d love to see if any NDA actually stands up in court if broken. Somehow I doubt they would.
I really believe they are used to make people feel important. Or all Project Managers are paranoid.

Say that when some intern tells every magazine out there about every detail in the game you have been slaving over for the past year. If could be disastrous for a studio to have someone break a NDA.It happened to Lionhead to a small extent and they decided not to take it to court as it was just a bit of information and a few screenshots. However, a company could lose a major trade secret or their revolutionary game could be ripped off by ten other companies and they may release it before you, therefore taking your profits.
I don’t know the ins and outs of NDAs but I know they’re there for a reason. I had to sign one with Torc, I haven’t said one word outside that office that is confidential about their company and their game. If I did I’d be sickened. NDAs are no joke that bigwigs use to make themselves feel important.
Of course everyone has an opinion, why do you feel that they are, Festoon? :)

Inactive(I couldn’t edit post, eh??)
Also, don’t forget that NDAs aren’t exclusive to the interactive entertainment industry. They’re used throughout all business. This isn’t something that the Tony Kelly’s of the world do to make them feel superior to the ‘others’. ;)

InactiveAfter word got out that Vis Science were going to make the new Bond game, the guy who said it on a public forum, using his work email, got fired immediatelly and was escorted from the building, or so the story goes…..
Its not that I’m working on something cool….you can all decide on that yourselves…in a while. Its the whole thing where I know people working in 4 different companies and the one question that keeps coming up is, “what you working on?”, and the answer is always, “umm…I can’t really say just yet”.

InactiveI know what you mean, Omen – it’s a pain, there’s no doubt about it, and particularly when you know a mate of yours is working on something cool (an Xbox2 title, for instance) but a single syllable can’t pass their lips about it, etc.)
As Ronny said, it’s the nature of the beast, and not just for our industry either – most IT and Telcos, and particularly anyone in the entertainment space have to suffer it, as it’s just so competitive
I’d love to see if any NDA actually stands up in court if broken. Somehow I doubt they would[/quote:59ae508a64] they can be quite hard to enforce (and depending on how they are written_ some are better than others – but I wouldn’t take them lightly. I’ve been on both sides of some pretty ironclad NDAs in my time
