ok here is a follow up on that workshop..Aphra

we are ‘looking for parents and children aged 4-8 years old. We will be playing games that use story, we will also be using big gaming dice that brings an rpg feel to the games. We will be working with groups of 5 to 6 kids at a time. Running for an hour and a half or so. All being held Saturday the 28th in the exchange Dublin 12pm onwards.’

Jamie and I had a chat about this yesterday. We will write it up for gd.ie and produce a longer report too and circulate.
Probably end of the summer though so there is still time for companies to provide their total employment information.

so in development we have ios followed by PC and then facebook – more PC than I had thought.

FYI Jamie – the blues are hard to tell apart in the development pie chart – maybe try a few other colours in it.
I think sharing people’s experiences and the varying types of rewards and plans on offer is useful for people who are thinking about either taking or offering an internship.
Perhaps this is an area where an organisation like Games Ireland could have a constructive role in developing guidelines and managing expections.
There are variations I think between short term (1-3 month) internships taken during or just after a post secondary course and longer term (6 month-1 year) internships.
there are probably legal differences too – but that is not my area. Maybe internships fall outside normal employment regulations. Any legal egales know more?

No he focuses on the UK but he does look at the role of early computer magazines and I suspect some of those mags were available in Ireland too..
It was his PhD but here are a couple of articles

so I guess we are talking about the 70s for home consoles but arcades that is a different matter, probably earlier.
games world used to be on liffey street in dublin and was an irish independent retailer before it was bought by game. Maybe some of the original people from there might know.
i also remembered that leslie haddon in the uk has written about the history of computer and console dev. in the uk. If that would help I have some references.
