Aphra KKeymastersome very thoughtful responses here.
I have invited lecturers and tutors on the various courses to respond and depending on the number we receive I hope to have a follow up feature from an academic perspective.
Also this topic will be discussed at an industry panel at CGames in a couple of weeks.

Aphra KKeymasterI was in the Long Stone about two weeks ago and it was appalling. Apparently they have changed ownership and while I am getting old we couldn’t near ourselves think, let alone speak. They had a DJ doing spot prizes!
Long Hall is still open but gets very jammed..post smoking ban the old body odours can be a bit over the top!
I still plug for Ryans – after work crowd will be leaving about 8pm and we can all slot in nicely. Kind of a done up old man’s pub…with a very local crowd. we could get some funny looks.
those who want can head to any number of venues after…including, what is that classy place in the old cinema??

Aphra KKeymasterpeople might like to note the following about CGames

2) there is an industry panel 17:45 – 18:45 on “What Academia Can Offer the Digital Games Industry”
3) my good self is speaking on Friday
shindig Friday night…
4) Ernest Adams workshops on Sat …
plus lots of papers..
for more see the programme. http://www.comp.dit.ie/cgames/program.html

Aphra KKeymasterwell no major clammoring for Sat…so Friday it is I guess..
Since CGames is in DIT we might think of moving our shindig somewhere in that vicinity. Do people know Ryans on Camden Street – just up from the Village and Whelans heading towards the Bleeding Horse?

Aphra KKeymasterCarlow IT course will have its first grads this year – there are about 11 in the class but that has ramped up in their second and first year. Third years are expected to go on work experience as far as I know.
Not sure about other courses..Carlow was one of the first degree courses to get going.

Aphra KKeymasterYes, was just talking about the frequency of certain questions with folks yest…
FAQ not a bad idea at all..

Aphra KKeymasterMal,
Skillset only cover the UK so they wouldn’t/probably won’t accredit courses in the Republic.
Not sure why or if they looked at the courses in the North. Maybe someone else knows..
