yea 26th sounds good..and I could do a guided tour of Portlaoise if you really want! (nearest home town for me as a kid for those who don’t know)

don’t mind a Galway or Cork trip either…

yes sorry about that – meant to let you know Claire. Got a nice chance to join John at a conference in Australia so greetings from Sydney! Off to New Zealand next week but have left gd.ie in good hands it seems!

Conf organisers from WIGs seem pretty upbeat about the conference so glad it went well…

Any highlights? Should be online more this week – if at weird times!!

Ernest Adams is doing mail outs to promote the new version of the book he wrote ages ago with Andrew Rollings on Game Design. The revised edition won’t be out until August but those teaching on game courses can order inspection copies before that by contacting him directly. See details below

    ‘put a page <http://www.designersnotebook.com/Books/Fundamentals_of_Game_Design/fundamen
tals_of_game_design.htm> on my website to describe it in more depth,
including some info on the new material.

If you scroll down some you can also see a detailed Table
    <http://www.designersnotebook.com/Books/Fundamentals_of_Game_Design/fundamen
    tals_of_game_design.htm#TOC> of Contents.

The book is being published by Prentice-Hall, and its ISBN number is
0131687476. I’m the principal author on this edition. It will actually be in
shops on August 21st, but you should be able to pre-order it for classes by
    the 8th or so.

In order to get you an evaluation copy I’ll need all of the following: your
name, title, institution (department and university), street address to ship
it to, office telephone number, fax number (if any), and E-mail address.

    Hi shiv

welcome to the boards and yes indeed animators are needed in the industry..

there are a few folk around interested in narrative and interactivity so feel free to post questions and see if we can get them going on that. Also see the thread on game studies books under the education, training, jobs topic which has some links to recent books in the area.

Given the forthcoming Women in Games conf and the profile of most game courses it is interesting to note that the MA programme in Digital Games Design offered by the University College for the Creative Arts at Farnham in the UK are offering a number of assisted places to female applicants for the upcoming September 2006 intake.

For more information about this course for 2006, contact enquiries@dgdu.org.

Mackenzie Wark, a well respected academic, living in New York, has draft chapters of his new book on games online and is inviting comment and feedback…He is a critical theorist and this is a nice attempt at a book online in terms of design and layout.

    See here http://www.futureofthebook.org/gamertheory/

Well since we all can’t agree on a date for the shindig here is another attempt to get you out and about.

I am officially launching my book in the IFI bookshop at 7pm on the 15th of June – i.e. next Thurs. The book will be launched by Prof. Paschal Preston of DCU and introduced by my current boss Dr. Sean O’Riain from NUIM.

This is an invitation only event cause the space is small but if you would like to attend please contact me via events@gamedevelopers.ie and we will see how the nos are going.

the book itself will be available at a 20% discount on the night and some refreshments (as always) will be provided.

    just another excuse to party..
