DUUG #13: Lucky for DUUG!
March 28, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
*KSSSHHH* –alling, DUUG CALLING, COME IN DUBLIN! Thank goodness, I thought we’d fallen out of phase for good there! If only we had an event to anchor us, something that covers planning and balancing strategy games along with an introduction to writing shaders– OH WAITAMINUTE:
This DUUG is happening on Weds the 28th of March from 6.15-09.00pm!
Usually you go to ground when the storm is approaching, but we do things differently! Now that the storm has passed, we’ll meet in the Dogpatch Vaults! Our heartfelt thanks to the awesome staff and keepers of this realm for hosting us once again!
Map here (https://goo.gl/maps/mvQZNj2buNE2). Website here (http://dogpatchlabs.com/) (pierce the veil with cybervision and… THE INTERNET!).
For PRESENTATION A, let us whisk you away to an exotic holiday on Eden Isle! Elaine Reynolds and Carlo Azzari of Simteractive will provide us with a fascinating glimpse into the design and production of this up-and-coming management sim! Trace the systems design and development of the game with Elaine and then follow Carlo on a deep dive into the world of balancing a game with significant strategic depth!
THEN: Beauty may be only skin deep, but a helluva lot of work went into those shaders! Tim Sabo has been part of the Dublin’s professional games development scene for almost five years, working on gameplay, tools, and graphics programming. PRESENTATION B promises to teach us the fundamentals of practical shader creation – Tim will explain how to create a shader that costs around twenty euros on the Unity Asset Store in under twenty minutes, using Shader Forge! There will be gifs!
**Unfortunately, this month we’ll be unable to host a post-talks conversation at the Dogpatch Vaults from 9pm-10pm. We’re checking out local pubs and we’ll nominate a place for everybody to head to afterwards for the traditional post-presentation chats!**
If you’re bringing a project to playtest/show at DUUG, we encourage you to consider adding a scoreboard to the project! There’s nothing like a little friendly competition to get people queuing up to take another crack at your game…! (And if you’d like some basic scoreboard code to get started, feel free to ask the DUUG organisers on the day!)
RSVP, ASAP! We’ll see you there!
