- FORBIDDEN TOMES WHISPER OF ITS EXISTENCE… of a mask forged in strange and foreign lands, a sinister hood that, when donned, transports its wearer to alien planes, manifests impossible geometry and tears in twain the veil separating the real from the virtual…
It’s a jolly good time!
This month we are delighted to bring you a TRIPLE BARREL of presentations on Virtual Reality from VRAI (www.vrai.ie), a innovative pioneer in the field…!
This DUUG is happening on Weds the 31th of October from 6.15-21.30pm!
We are pleased to announce that this event will be hosted by the good people at Dogpatch Labs and that we’ll have their Vaults Event Room to ourselves on the night! Bring your colleagues, bring your friends – tonight, there’s something for everyone!

We begin with PRESENTATION A, a talk on how VR can inspire empathy in those who experience it. In March 2018, VRAI travelled to Somalia to make a VR training experience for the UN Mine Action Service. Niall Campion, founder & creative director at VRAI, will talk about working with UNMAS, the challenges of filming in a war zone, and how VRAI managed to deliver a compelling experience in a mere 6 weeks.
Next up we have Caoimhe Doyle! The Lead Developer at VRAI, Caoimhe The Lead Developer at VRAI, Caoimhe graduated from Dublin Institute of Technology in 2017 with a MSc in Creative Digital Media specialising in Digital Games. In PRESENTATION B, Caoimhe will speak about the technical aspects of the UNMAS project – using motion tracking combined with game development techniques to create truly interactive 360 video in VR with Unity.
Chris McHugh brings it home with PRESENTATION C! XR Developer at VRAI, Chris will introduce us to the Oculus Go headset and detail how VRAI ported their UNMAS experience from a full immersive setup to an all-in-one VR headset. He’ll also explain how to set up Unity for VR development, and showcase some tricks and techniques for building VR games.
If you’re bringing a project to playtest/show at DUUG, we encourage you to consider adding a scoreboard to the project! There’s nothing like a little friendly competition to get people queuing up to take another crack at your game…! (And if you’d like some basic scoreboard code to get started, feel free to ask the DUUG organisers on the day!)
RSVP, ASAP! We’ll see you there!
