A cross section of people were filmed playing the Wii for the first time on the recent Nintendo road show..

This looks more like an advertisement than a play test. Wii Sports seems to be one of the only games for the Wii that wont take hours to learn the controls for( I’ve heard some games were pulled from game shows due to the controls being so awkward).
I’ve gone from really looking forward to this console to wanting to avoid it at all costs.

When Nintendo get some feedback on the important titles like Red Steel & Zelda then i might be interested but from what I’ve read in magazine features and on the net the controller isn’t as good as Nintendo says it is.

is this the same EDGE that implied in an editorial piece last month (issue 168 pg 29) that Baroness Susan Greenfield isn’t qualified to speak up on the effects of games on children’s minds?

I’ve heard private misgivings and suspicions about the precision available in wii controllers and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if some devs were forced to pull demos because they hadn’t come to terms with the technology in time. I also don’t doubt that they will come to terms with it though – since starting working with ps2 controllers it never ceases to amaze me how people build tight responsive game controls while using those monstrously deadspot-afflicted pieces of…

Edge dropped immensely in my estimation last month. If it wasn’t for bloody milestones I’d have written them a pissy letter about it. But then I have misgivings on the effects of computer games and television on children anyway.

I cannot wait for this console.

At first i was extremely scepticle about it, really thought it was just a gimick.

But my god, the gameplay aspects are just amazing.

And theyre boxing Wiisports with the console?!
omg…when was the last console that had a game with it at launch.

Im gonna say the SEGA Megadrive-2

fast-foward [indeterminate amount of time, hopefully fast], how soon do you reckon some bright hacker comes up with a PC driver for the Wiimote system (assuming it can use standard GC-to-PC adapter)?

Me really want to try PC FPS with projector, ‘mote & nunchuck

Wasn’t there something on Gamasutra recently about some British company claiming they had tech that would work like a Wii remote for PS3 and XBox360, that would imply PC too probably. May not be Wii remote, but similar tech.

I suppose the tech has been there for years with professional VR devices, e.g. such as used by commercial aircraft manufacturers. Just not at consumer price levels.

But I would want to reuse in-house equipment, rather than fork out for a device-specific Wiimote-alike  (I’m not cheap, just cluttered  )

anyone play the Wii at toys4bigboys at the weekend? I had a go of Excite Truck, Zelda and Wii Sports Tennis. I found the remote to be excellent. Light, small (really small!), funky looking. It fit’s nicely in your hand. The nunchuck was a bit too small for my liking though, but still comfortable.
Out of all the games, I enjoyed Zelda the least. I found it quite hard to play-trying to aim the bow was hard, as the pointer jitter all over the place, and my arm soon tired! I think I read somewhere that those control issues were sorted out now, so maybe it was an earlier build. Still looks good though! I’m excited!!!!

From play tests I’ve read on various sites it seems that after an hour or two of playing Zelda the aiming of the bow, boomerang etc becomes second nature.

Anyone see the thing on gamespot “we got a wii”???

documents them getting the wii, setting it up , making a wi and then playing some games. And they tested gamecube games too

Zelda looks really average in my opinion

The wii itself seems pretty cool.

      Zelda looks really average??!?!?!?!??

      ………….

I have watched dozens of new videos of Zelda and my anticipation for the game has sky rocketed even higher. The puzzles that I have seen (which is probably only 1% of all the puzzles in the game) look amazing, the atmosphere seems incredible, the size of the game is unbelievable, the visuals are stunning, the music is pure ear candy, the character design is brilliant, the wolf looks like great fun to play, the twilight areas seem eerie and magical……..I could go on and on about how this game looks 10 times more spectacular than anything else out there and I have only seen about 10 minutes of footage out of what most people are saying is a 70 hour game!

      [deep breath]

In short, this game is going to own me….big time. And probably moreso than Ocarina, which is the best game I have ever played, by a country mile.

Ok first of the wii i think is a bit of a gimmick, like it really is suited for multiplayer games when u have a gang over but how often does that happen. As for the remote it feels ok but its only suited for specific games. Id see myself getting it for my younger brother but its an xbox 360 or ps3 for me. And whats this about having to fork out for a new hd tv for the xbox. i plan on using my lcd monitor which in any new ones is hd ready so itll work perfect. I think people just have there favourite console already in mind. Look at steph *dont hurt me lol* she already has her mind made up for the wii. I think its a great idea but when u have games like halo 3, gears of war, the new final fantasys. really the wii isnt for the serious gamer.

Im just waiting for the back lash now 8)

Sorry he-man :D No my mistake sorry. But to reply to those games with the exception of zelda there all a year away at least. So ur a$$ will be waiting quite awhile yet. :P And xbox 360 and PS3 have the games to easily rival them. But the difference is that they have hundreds more top games that will fully use the potential of the ps3 and xbox. And what really puts the nail in the coffin for the wii is the simple fact that if the technology is there to create a controller like wiis how long do u think it will be before sony and microsft create one of their own….

What are you talking about, they’re all out early next year, Q1.
If you want blood and guts and car smoke, by all means, play 360 or PS3, but if you want good clean fun in a classic style, get a Wii. I did and I’m more than happy to have it over either of the other 2 consoles

I can only speak from my own personal experience here but I got a Wii on Friday and I haven’t turned on my 360 since.

Sure the Wii may not have the same WOW factor when it comes to graphics as the 360 or PS3 but in terms of fun I can’t think of anything I’ve ever played that matches it :D

Ah, so you are trolling indeed! I just wasn’t too sure beforehand

Wii will not ‘fail’ or ‘lose’ or whatever-other-‘Wii must die’-expression you care to use, in the face of 360/PS3, in the same way and for the same reasons as the DS has not, and isn’t likely to, ‘fail’ or ‘lose’ or… in the face of the PSP.

As very aptly put by omen a couple of posts ago, different staple diet of game genres for different markets. The crux, is that Wii is addressed to the bigger target audience (in terms of pure numbers, i.e. everyone), when compared to the target audience for 360/PS3 (16-24 male). And when a format gets a large user base fast, irrespective of its technical merits/capacity, more and more games get developed for it.

It’s simple maths, in the business of making videogames: you’re likely to sell more of a non-AAA Wii/360 game when you’ve got 10m 360s / 6m Wiis installed, than a “near-as-dammit-garanteed-1:1 sell ratio” AAA game (e.g. Motorstorm) on PS3 when you’ve got 3m PS3s installed. And you’re likely to profit much more as well.

While I am a huge Nintendo Fanboy ( until 3 am outside Game Dawson St. December 7th people!) Dracula inadvertedly made some accurate points. Mario and Metroid have slipped majorly, reliable game websites state maybe as late as this December (I’ll try to find links). There are very few titles announced that are coming out soon, and they are all pretty much ports. I’m not a fan of Warioware.

And so far I have to say I am not enjoying Twilight Princess. I am a huge Zelda fan, but the Wii controls let it down a little bit, the wolf bits are rubbish and the tears of light quests are worse. I think I am on Dungeon 6 or 7 and have only really loved one, although two others were ok. Let’s hope we get some really kick ass titles soon. Having said that, the 360 has been out a year and a half and I can’t see a reason to own it apart from Viva Pinata and GoW. It’s only really essential if you have broadband. I won’t be buying one until halo 3 anyway. Launches are always pretty slow…we were just spoiled by the GC launch and the small numbers that followed it :P

i was really looking forward to playing the wii this xmas (i helped get one for my GF little brother for xmas), but i have to say i was disappointed. I did not play it for a huge amount of time (1-2hrs total) but wii sports was fun, but not as fun as i expected (anyone else feel they weren’t really in control? ) and wii play pretty much sucks.

i got zelda for him do, but i did no play it ( bar 1-2 mins), but i was never a zelda fan ( played OOT on the game cube, could not get into it).

still its early days. warioware: smooth moves, has got good reviews so thats what i want to base my wii judgement on

Brought my Wii home for xmas and I had all the family playing it, even some of whom have never played a computer game before. Wii Sports is great fun. Can’t say I’ve not felt in control, I think you need to play more. Zelda is fantastic, but you’re going to need several hours to get into it. Play is good for what it is, its lots of quick games PLUS a controller.
