That’s fantastic news. I posted a link to this site on the IGDA just in case some Irish members are not yet aware of Game Developers Ireland.

Congratulations to everybody involved in setting this chapter up. You’ve all done a great job.

      Hi All,

Anyone got any suggestions on parking for Thursday evening? Driving up from Galway so will probably be coming from the Hueston station side.

      Thanks,
      Alan

There is a Stat Oil station on the quays with a car park behind it and it is only a short walk up the hill to the Digital Hub – possibly the safest place to park. Only prob is, it is on the southside of the Liffey just before the long Guinness wall and you will be coming in on the northside of the river and there are one way streets so…

      a few directions..

If you are coming from Hueston Station and following the road along the Liffey into town down the quays, past Collins Barracks/National Museum on your left, you will want to take a right over one of the bridges on the Liffey – I don’t know what the bridge is called but once you are on the bridge O’Sheas pub will be on your left and the Brazen head on your right. It is the road that heads up to Christ church cathedral and Thomas Street.

You can’t turn right from the bridge onto the quays so you will have to take the next right, just after the Brazen head and the lighting shop. Take the first right again, down a cobble stone lane and then a left back onto the quays..

The stat oil station and car park are only about 20 metres on your left now..

From here you will be walking back up the hill behind the car park to Thomas Street and it is not far from the Digital Hub..

      hope that helps..

      Thanks Aphra.

I know it well. Used to frequent the Brazen Head once upon a time. I had thought that the Digital Hub was a lot further out which is why I had ruled that car park out.

Great. I have missed all the shindigs so far so I am looking forward to meeting everyone there.

There’s also a (free) car park behind the MIT building (old Guiness Storehouse). Sometimes it’s open, sometimes not. Not supervised as far as I know.

I’ve parked in it a couple of times during daytime events and once for a First Tuesday at the Gravity bar.

as far as I know you have to be working in Media Lab Europe or attending an event there to park in this car park. There is a barrier into it and usually a security guard somewhere around..

Yeah, I agree with Claire, the two days were a terrific success and I think that we are now laying down the foundations needed for a strong future for Irish game development.

Thank you to everyone there as you were all extremely kind and very helpful. It was great to be introduced with all of you. A special thank you to Aphra and John for giving me a place to stay and to Tony for picking up my bill for the dinner. I am already looking forward to the next meeting and will be sure to come down to meet all of you again, including anyone who I didn’t have a chance to meet.

Congratulations guys on putting together a fantastic event. It surpassed all of my expectations and has made me realise that Ireland is well on its way to making its mark on the game dev map. Well done. ;)
