folks, the generic web page currently available on http://www.igda.org/ireland/ is about to be replaced by a spanking new website, which is currently in testing
The new site will contain:
– full reports and piccies of the events
– breaking news on IGDA Ireland events
– info on the industry in Ireland
… and much moreI’ll post more info in the next few days… Any suggestions/comments you folks have are welcome

It really all seems to be coming together for IGDA Ireland. Can’t wait to see the site. A good few chapters have their own sites and are really informative so I’m glad we’ll be up there with them.
Best of luck working on the site Tony and anyone else involved. I’ll be taking a web site development course starting tomorrow actually.

It’s not 100% complete yet, but it’ll do for feedback. All feedback gratefully received
We’re planning on moving Gamedevelopers to it’s new home in the next few weeks. Once the move is complete, w’ll look at a design upgrade and we’re also planning to integrate the IGDA site into Gamedevelopers somewhere, so the design and information architecture may change radically.

Wow, it looks cool – a one stop place for Irish dev info (like gd.ie) but it will probably get to an even larger audience.

What tools are you using to construct the site?, I use Dreamweaver, but I doubt you use it, Idora. Do you?

I’m a big fan of Dreamweaver actually… have been using it since version 1 and introduced it into Intel when I started there

A few MINOR suggestions on the design side.
maybe mirror the top orange bar at the bottom and put a copyright notice and contact on it or something.
The blue links on the side maybe shange to the IGDA red? same with the [more] thingies?
I tried it at home and thought it looked pretty god but hey….whats design but an opinion. I didnt have dreamweaver so I didnt bother messing too much
I like the information slant as opposed to graphics etc and the scheme and layout are cool.
Good work lover. I’ll think a bit about content for it and suggestions when if ever i get time.

Well if your workmates think likewise then I can see why you haven’t even updated the Core website in over a year, insist on doing things the non-efficent way. Same goes to Torc. Why are companies so reluctant to use this powerful resource to advertise themselves and their products?? Web design is hardly rocket science, sit down for a few hours and abracadabra, new site ready to lure in a whole new following. -

I’ve often thought Dreamweaver is one of the better designed pieces of software I’ve used over the years. granted it’s overkill (and probably confuding) if you’re only looking to do the odd bit of HTML now and again, but for day-in, day-out web app development, it’s hard to beat in my opinion

I like Dreamweaver – I can create sites based on design and graphics rather than code. me like.

From my experiences creating web sites, I could create one much quicker using code than I could using DreamWeaver. Was with a company a few years back and we were designing a site that used JSP and then gave us no tools and I learned the hard way until it was simple to code it. Then they came along and told us to use DreamWeaver. Slowed down productivity dramatically so I refused to use it.
It did come in handy now and then when I was missing a closing tag, and it was easier to find mistakes like that, but that was the only thing I used it for.Why didn’t I like it…slowed me down.
As for the Core website…what should we put up there? “screwed it up a bit, company is being restructured, we’ll tell you about new products in the future”.
Reckon they’re just waiting to be allowed to go public with the current work and then update it. Actually dunno who does the web stuff here yet, so dunno if there even is anyone at the moment. Maybe I could do it :p -

I just noticed that the site seems to be down. The browser acts as if it never existed. Please try again and all that. Is this because the site is currently being redone?
