I heard this just today regrading VIS:

“Yes, that’s right, just heard that they’ve gone into liquidation. 1pm – meeting off-site, 1:30pm – everyone waiting outside to get their belongings.”

Out of curiousity Ivan, why exactly is there such a loathing between Vis and Vis Sci? Is it anything to do with the name or because you’re both in Dundee? Been wondering for a while…

I think its that each company is full of ex-employees with horror stories of the other…oh and that vissci whooped them in wolfenstein competition.

3 people have now added to the ‘VIS are closing’ rumour

      Hi,

Upstart Games is setting up a Cork office and two employees are confirmed to start shortly. Positions were recently advertised on irishjobs.ie. Initially, the work will primarily revolve around porting games to J2ME, Brew and imode from reference builds created in Dublin or Tokyo.

There will be further opening for developers over the coming months. Again, these will primarily be involved in porting. Skills required are a love of games and an excellent knowledge of C, C++. J2ME would be an advantage as would experience with 3D engines.

out of interest john, where are ye setting up in cork or is it to be confirmed at a future date.

its great to see, now theres going to be 2 mobile developers in cork.

the industry is really on the up turn, mobile games is a very profitable business indeed.

I believe that there are very talented staff in the area but very few opportunities locally. I hope that this is a correct assumption.

Cork also has certain advantages over Dublin, and with offices in both locations we can attract the best talent to work in their preferred area.
