The only company I can think of in Ireland is Vivendi Universal. But you might have a tough time getting a position with them if you haven’t got experience in testing/localisation/games…….

If you have a foreign lang then lionbridge would be a good place to look. They dont however do many games, its mainly buisness apps but they do get some games. You dont need a foreign lang to work in lionbridge but it would help. Another company is VistaTec. I dont know much about them but both Lionbridge and VistaTec are good places to start testing and gain experience to get into game testing. Was just on there websites and they currently have no Irish testing jobs available but I would suggest that you keep looking at the Lionbridge site because when they advertise a job they tend to take on as many people as they can.

I’ve heard from guy I used to work with that Microsoft do testing/localisation for XBOX and PC in their Sandyford offices in Dublin. I have never seen anything about it though.
It might be worth an email or phonecall to check it out, you have nothing to lose, except your soul, Bwahahahahah!

Do not work for VistaTEC. I have, and they pay much less than the industry standard testing/engineering salaries, the higher ups are for the most part, dicks, and the work enviroment is about as lively and fun as being locked in a closet with Sir Reg Empey(aka Mr Burns).

usually you have to do it in house. theres a risk your a dodgey dealer and you’ll leak to the internet. in house its less likely to happen. Also you use their systems to log bugs, flag mistakes etc. Out house is too awkward and not worth it from their point of view, unless your an exceptional tester or something. -

Yup. I can’t imagine anyone allowing a game out of their office for fear of you ripping it. Too much money involved. Also, when you log your ‘problem’ you may need to be around to recreate and expand on the problem cos us coders don’t always try to break things when testing :P ( Look at WoW :) )

I used to work at Vivendi (aka Havas, Vivendi Universal, VUGames)and Microsoft QA departments, both are in Dublin. Neither company will let you test from home.
If you want to get practice at QA, try and get on a beta for an upcoming game – they will send you a special beta CD…I got one for Age of Empires Mythology (or whatever it was called). They don’t pay you though, but you get instructions of how to log bugs.

Only 2 1/2 places I know of.
VUGames in Dublin – who do localisation. Mosty Sierra and Blizzard titles.
Keywords in Sandyford – Localisation as well. They have Microsoft connections and, last I heard, are next gen console contracted. They also are a friendly bunch down there…
SDL in Bray (Sandyford offices closed) – They do all sorts of testing. Software, games… [edit]You’ll only find localisation positions in Ireland, so a second language is necessary really.
If you want to do content and fonctionality testing, the UK is for you and the closest next best thing. Rockstar, for example, have a testing departement in Lincoln.
And no you cannot test from home. At all. Ever. -

You don’t need a second language to do localisation testing. It is preferable, yes, but not essential, and most places won’t even care if you don’t.
It is necessary for linguistic testing though…..obviously.
