Now here is a Q for you. I have just received an e-mail to say we at gamedevelopers.ie have been recommended for entry into the digital media awards this year.
Of course you have to pay 120 euros plus VAT to enter.
what do you think? Is the publicity etc. worth it?
See here for more http://www.digitalmedia.ie/index.html

Is it normal to have to pay to be considered for an award at one of these ceremonies? Surely it’s the sponsors that front up the costs?
I know nothing about these things, but it just struck me as odd that you would have to pay……

it depends on the awards….these particular ones you do pay.
struck me as strange too

And where exactly did the recommendation come from? Not the organisers trying to make a few spare quid?
Dave
Edit: I see Tony and Nicky Grogan are on the judging panel…

What’s with all these awards? They’re always giving out awards. Best Fascist Dictator: Adolf Hitler.

jeepers…it is a real money spinner…
thanks Omen for the support. Maybe we should save our money to pay for server space, the domain name and the odd feature though.

I got the same “congratulations, you have been recommended” e-mail. I put it down to a marketing ploy to drum up submissions.

paying for your seats at award ceremonies is pretty common. not sure about the ‘you have been nominated…’ bit though
