Inspired by the most recent questions regarding the Irish gaming scene, which of the following best expresses your current position & opinion:

What about not working in the industry and have no intention of entering it?

Hey I had all the bases covered but I’m only allowed 10 answers (which by the way is not mentioned anywhere in the set up page), so I cut out the less likely ones, merged a few.
If you’re not on there then just leave a comment :)

I currently study something other than videogames and intend to enter the videogames industry[/quote:959fc78092]
I assume that includes studying for a general Computing degree with the intention of entering the videogame industry? -

As i said…only allowed to put 10 possibilites, i did originally have a set of answers for associated professionals but I figured they would be in a minority.
I would guess that the majority of people on the forum are either in, or intend to be in, the videogames industry.
I left in al the questions regarding students rather than most of the associated professionals beacuse thats my own prespective and I’m curious as to how many people are in a similar situation

I’m studying outside of game development and will likely enter the industy afterwards. I doubt I’ll stay in Ireland for long, though there are a couple of good companies here who I’d like to be with. I’ll probably head to England soon after university. That’s a personal choice, not because I’m forced too. Right, Ivan? :P

I am a 5th year second level student hoping to go on to study video games later. I do L.C.V.P as I’m terrible at Irish and have to do a week of work experience/shadowing. Is there anyone here that knows where I can get such experience/shadowing.
P.S. shadowing is where a company takes someone in to see “a day in the life” of an employee so that person can get a feel for the job.

If its only a day, then it would need to be close to where you live. Which is? (not too specific please)

It will be a week, maybe two, after Easter. I’m in South Dublin.

i suspect it should be pretty easy to get a games industry shadowing week, coz shadowing generally isnt paid. So who doesnt want free help, also nice way to make a few contacts etc :)

I wouldn’t be so sure. Company has to get contracts and such done up even if its just an NDA and then you’re basically losing an employee for a week looking for the shadow because the shadow is going to be able to do no work of consequence in the company until its at test stage. Seems like a lot of hassel for no real pay-back for the company unless the shadow has already shown great potential and its on a promise they’ll come back later. -

Indeed, Damian. Also, it’s not really free at all. The company still have to pay for the overheads, such as electricity and heating. There’s no such thing as a free lunch.
