Tis a a strange one haven’t really been excited bout the new wave of console or even handhelds but spose I just really need to get more hands on with them, I switched from nintendo after the snes but I may go back with the rev, not too sure, time will tell. :)

Same answer as everyone else: Revolution + A.n.other (aka PS3)

Definatly the revolution, I know I am a fan of nintendo but I have to pick this cuz simply it will be the only next gen console to have a zelda game on it and for nintendos innocative gaming style. Imagine swinging the controller around and link perfectly copying your graceful (or drunken like) sword movements. That new controller should open up new gaming opportunities, but will games developers be able to truly use the hardware as well as nintendo can is yet to be seen.
But to go along with my revolution I would have to pick the xbox.

I’m going to let this one play out for a while and I’ll only buy either the Xbox or Playstation once I’ve clearly identified what one is for me.

As usual, will end up buying all three…not from a solely selfish perspective, I have a small console focus group called ‘d lads’ who live with me and call me dad. They currently have a games libary to rival extravision.

happy enough to buy em post christmas when the price approaches the sanity cost curve.

Although I do draw the line at the PSP, just discussin’ it today with one of me old mates in MS, with the DVD, portable capabilities and target demographic why wasn’t it just called the sony ‘wristman’

Im going to buy them all!

And just for fun, I think I will throw in a DS aswell.

I cant stand the thought of not playing either Zelda, Metroid, MGS or Halo. 8)

      Hey CodeMasterMike,

Aren’t you rich, like seemingly everyone else on these boards? I thought I was the only one on here who didn’t have GTX’s and SGI’s coming out my ears.

Good to know that there is a fellow “economy class flyer” in these boards!

Just out of interest, what’s your take on Communism? Ya FOR or AGAINST? If you went on the beer, and could only pick one person, would it be FIDEL or GATES???

Sorry, I’m just (trying to be) being satirical…

If I can afford it … all 3, if not then the revolution. If the PS3 is going to be as big as its predecessors then someone I know will have one, why should I spend my spare cash on something I’ll have access to anyway?

Not impressed/enthused by the XBox 360 at all.

I wonder if launching so early (compared to the others) will afect it in a bad way. It will be seen as last years tech by the time the PS3 launches…

im saying revolution purly because i know i will get loads more quality game play through it, and it will be cheapest. i will prob eventually buy all three, but i just couldnt resist the availabilty of software that wil be accessible through the revolution. ya hear burns?? mario at 60 fps you say?? yoshi tennis in your macenroe shorts sitting on your sofa?

I hear ya richie, YOU KNOW I’ll be Hanging with Mario as soon as those boxes hit these shores. Then me and Zelda are gonna sort out some bad guys, followed by some Metroid-Culling with Samus, and maybe, JUST MAYBE some bright spark will revamp Goldeneye, and the circle will be complete.

and maybe even all the hasselhooooooooof fanboys on the boards will fully enjoy a game to badminton with the legend himself. i truly hope games on all 3 of the consoles have a longer lifespan and some more unique gameplay.

Compared to the other launches of consoles i am not that excited about these new consoles. i was going to buy the 360 but the PS3 will probably have more games. i don’t care what type of console it is as long as there are good games to play on it. i have an xbox but i was always missing out on the killer games in the PS2.

here is another question is anybody going to buy a PS2 or a xbox if they don’t have one to get the games that they have missed out on. This is because of the prices of consoles falling.

Since we’re talking about the Revolution some new specs have been let out of the bag…

      128MB RAM? No HD? ugh…

Nintendo bigwig Shigeru Miyamoto has suggested that players might not be able to tell the difference between the new Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and some high-definition games.

      http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/12/06/xbox360_vs_ps3/

What you fail to mention though is that developers, though concerned about the specs, were full of praise for the controller.
So the Revolution may have a smaller library than the 360 or PS3, but at least they will for the most part be unique games. Not just sequels and rehashes which will appear on both the 360 and PS3.

A problem I have is that I think most of those unique games will rely heavily on gimmicks. The problem when a game relies on a gimmick is the novelty generally quickly dies out and you’re left with a poor game.(In my mind anyway)

really have to read these before I hit submit…

    • #28112

High-end graphics is a gimmick too. Look at Doom 3.

But how many people bought it on the basis that the graphics were great?
Nintendo have never needed fantastic graphics to make a great game, hence they don’t need the high-end processing power the others are tauting. Just had my first look at the 360 today and i can’t say i’m that impressed. If someone gave me one now, the only thing I’d be doing with it would be putting it on ebay to makes lots of money.

I agree with you on that one. One of the best exclusive franchises Sony have going for them at the moment. Itll eventually get to the XBox 360 alright but not for 6 months anyway at least.

lol, I’ve heard of them going upwards of 800 dollars, that’s crazy. I can’t really comment on the Xbox 360 as I’ve only really seen it for a brief minute in xtra vision. Compared to a high end PC I don’t see what the fuss is about.

I understand what you’re saying that all too often shoddy games sell because they’re using a pretty graphics engine. My point is that Nintendo might not use the graphics as their gimmick but they will certainly use other things(like the controller). In the end a gimmick is a gimmick and doesn’t offer long term appeal. You might not agree with me but that is my opinion, of course it might be proved wrong once we get Nintendo’s system in our own hands.

I make no promises that there will not be at least one mistake in the above post

you think thats bad, a guy on ebay got $611 for the BOX of an xbox 360.

and the ad clearly said in block capitals that it was only a box, no machine.

      it still got 19 bids!

I have to admit that I just bought Doom 3 for the graphics not even really for playing, certainly recently most games I get are to take apart and look at the innards, Farcry being a great example. Think I will probably go for the revolution not just for the great games that are likely to come with but also for that *hopes* access to back catalogue games for a serious nostalgia shot and certainly the reason why I got into games. :D

*turns on tetris on gameboy (original)….blink…blink….zzzzp*

      Thats fantastic :)

lk_… who knows about the revolution, could be good could be bad. I’m in no rush to get into next gen. I’ll be waiting til all are out before making a decision.

Heh, thats thesecond time thats happened. It happened with a “Limited Edition” XBox Box again last year except the guy tried to get his money back rather than excepting the fact that he as an idiot…

See my main gripe with the Revoultion is the direction its going in in general. Fair enough Nintendo are going for a different market but said market is one that just doesnt really interest me. Sure innovation and some gimmicks are great but as lk said, that can sometimes wear out quickly, the gimmicky side anyway.

Fair play on the controller though, its quite different but again its quirkyness will only be suitable for a select few genres and then your left with a standard NES style controller for everything else.

Then my main point, for ONCE I’d like to see the likes of Mario, Zelda and Samus in some high end glory. I mean what Miyamoto said about Twilight Princess isnt probably far from the truth but we’ve enjoyed all our other favourite characters in high end glory, isnt it time for some of the BEST of them to get the same treatment?

    • #28139

but didn’t nintendo say that the revolution would have 4 ports for gamecube controllers too?

or did i just imagine that?

Sorry but thats rubbish. There is no high end glory. Thats Nintendo’s point. No matter how much power you put into a game, there will always be more power to put in another time. I mean look at Sunshine over Mario64, was there anymore you wanted from it visually at the time? Probably not, but I bet there is now. This will go on and on, until people cop on to good games = good gameplay, and nothing else. If falling bloscks in various combinations are all you need then thats all you need. If you need photorealistic for gameplay purposes then be all means go for it, but if you don’t then why put all the effort there? No one has made the perfect game yet but all the effort seems to be going into the glitz rthaer than the gears….

I don’t care who makes a game Nintendo, EA or anyone, but for Gods sake concentrate on what makes a game a game instead of trying to be the next hollywood

not really cos people were used to using joysticks in the arcades and it was treated as an evolution rather than revolution.

btw my imagination hasn’t taken over completely

Cool….. conventional games aren’t going to be an issue so. I seem to remember Shiggy mentioning at some point that there’s a revolution gamepad as well, that it won’t come with the new machine but that it will be available

Well first of all I never played Sunshine, no one I knew who had an GC had it. Hrm, well maybe I should have expanded that. See I KNOW Nintendo will make great games, regardless of the graphics in them but it would be nice to have the best of both worlds tbh. I mean the pic of Metroid Prime 3 isnt exactly impressive compared to anything we’ve seen from either the X360 or PS3?

But the thought of using analog sticks with your thumb was very strange. I remember most people at the time saying that the standard d-pad would still be used more than the stick. Now, the d-pad is rarely used for anything but peripheral controls.
Anyway, as someone pointed out……the Revolution will have a standard controller available.

One thing for sure though(imo), it is the coolest looking of all the new consoles.

i hope they keep some of the gamecube design for the “hub” standard controller. will be really cool aswell when the revolution remote will be docked into the standard controller, ever see people playing racing games for the first time? and when they take a corner, they start to tilt the controller and their bodies? well things like that with the revolution remote will actually effect gameplay!! :D

By far the best frist and third person console after pc of course. Just cant beat the mouse and keyboard!

The nitendo has so much petential with their new controllers. I just hope that they put them to full use use but as its nintendo i expect that they shall!
