I’ll get right to the point. There is no time and little temptation for those who work hard on their jobs and their responsibilities to implement an officious parody of justice called “gamedevelopers.ie-ism”. One of my objectives is to call people to their highest and best, not accommodate them at their lowest and least. Gamedevelopers.ie’s dupes all look like gamedevelopers.ie, think like gamedevelopers.ie, act like gamedevelopers.ie, and change children’s values from those taught in the home to those considered chic by the worst kinds of haughty scapegraces there are, just like gamedevelopers.ie does. And all this in the name of — let me see if I can get their propaganda straight — brotherhood and service. Ha! Considering that gamedevelopers.ie has no real regard for other people’s rights, privacy, or sanity, I find it almost laughable how it remains oblivious to the fact that by letting it present a false image to the world by hiding unpleasant but vitally important realities about its crusades, we are playing a loser’s game. (Actually, the thought that someone, somewhere, might present another paradigm in opposition to its doctrinaire, unpleasant blanket statements is anathema to gamedevelopers.ie but that’s not important now.)

You may be picking up on something here in all of my responses to gamedevelopers.ie’s tyrannical prognoses. All of my responses presume that we could opt to sit back and let gamedevelopers.ie make us the helpless puppets of our demographic labels. Most people, however, would argue that the cost in people’s lives and self-esteem is an extremely high price to pay for such inaction on our part. Trumpeted so many times, gamedevelopers.ie’s ideologies have begun to feed on themselves, to generate their own publicity, to cow their opponents not by argument but by sheer repetition, and to institutionalize sex discrimination by requiring different standards of protection and behavior for men and women. Gamedevelopers.ie always demands instant gratification. That’s all that is of concern to it; nothing else matters — except maybe to canonize arrogant scumbags as nomological emblems of propriety. I tell you this because if it were up to gamedevelopers.ie, schoolchildren would be taught reading, ‘riting, and racism.

The absurdity of gamedevelopers.ie’s biases did not dawn on me until I realized that gamedevelopers.ie is not known for interpreting facts rationally or objectively. Now, I could go off on that point alone, but it has the nerve to call those of us who point out that the emperor has no clothes on “conspiracy theorists”. No, we’re “conspiracy revealers” because we reveal that if we look beyond gamedevelopers.ie’s delusions of grandeur, we see that its ventures will have consequences — very serious consequences. And we ought to begin doing something about that. I am not a robot. I am a thinking, feeling, human being. As such, I get teary-eyed whenever I see gamedevelopers.ie tour the country promoting unsavory clericalism in lectures and radio talk show interviews. It makes me want to tell you things that it doesn’t want you to know, which is why I’m so eager to tell you that if you’re the type who dares to think for yourself, then you’ve probably already determined that gamedevelopers.ie is extraordinarily brazen. We’ve all known that for a long time. However, its willingness to go to great lengths to conceal its true aims and mislead the public sets a new world record for brazenness. Gamedevelopers.ie’s virtue and brains are inversely proportionate to its vices and the size of its mouth. Do give that some thought.

      ok let me explain

I don’t know what to make of gamedevelopers.ie’s beliefs. On the one hand, faster than you can say “scientificophilosophical”, gamedevelopers.ie will indulge in a vast orgy of murder to sate its innate blood-lust and its hatred of its betters. But on the other hand, crime unpunished is crime rewarded. What follows is a series of remarks addressed to the readers of this letter and to gamedevelopers.ie itself. In any case, what really irks me is that gamedevelopers.ie has presented us with a Hobson’s choice. Either we let it appropriate sacred symbols for snotty purposes or it’ll exploit the masses. Am I the only one who makes that observation? Of course not. But perhaps I express it more directly, more candidly, and far less euphemistically than most.

We don’t have to stand for this! Like a verbal magician, gamedevelopers.ie knows how to lie without appearing to be lying, how to bury secrets in mountains of garbage-speak. If gamedevelopers.ie is going to impose a one-size-fits-all model on how society should function, then it should at least have the self-respect to remind itself of a few things: First, it is known for publishing what is easily identifiable as opinion under the guise of fact. And second, it argues that I am footling for wanting to give it a rhadamanthine warning not to bombard me with insults. I should point out that this is almost the same argument that was made against Copernicus and Galileo almost half a millennium ago. Gamedevelopers.ie practically breaks its arm patting itself on the back when it says, “It takes courage to go down into the muddy trenches and replace our timeless traditions with gamedevelopers.ie’s deranged ones.” As if that were something to be proud of.

Gamedevelopers.ie has, on a number of occasions, expressed a desire to encumber the religious idea with too many things of a purely earthly nature and thus bring religion into a totally unnecessary conflict with science. On all of these occasions, I submitted to the advice of my friends, who assured me that its lies come in many forms. Some of its lies are in the form of ultimata. Others are in the form of tirades. Still more are in the form of folksy posturing and pretended concern and compassion. Maybe you, too, want to create a putrid, self-serving world of guilt and shame, so let me warn you: This is not the first time I’ve wanted to reverse the devolutionary course gamedevelopers.ie has set for us. But it is the first time I realized that one of its favorite tricks is to create a problem and then to offer the solution. Naturally, it’s always its solutions that grant it the freedom to pander to our worst fears, never the original problem. What I have been writing up to this point is not what I initially intended to write in this letter. Instead, I decided it would be far more productive to tell you that I believe I have finally figured out what makes organizations like gamedevelopers.ie combine, in a rare mixture, bestial cruelty and an inconceivable gift for lying. It appears to be a combination of an overactive mind, lack of common sense, assurance of one’s own moral propriety, and a total lack of exposure to the real world. If gamedevelopers.ie could have one wish, it’d wish for the ability to propitiate maledicent criminal masterminds for later eventualities. Then, people the world over would be too terrified to acknowledge that gamedevelopers.ie manipulates public opinion through raw emotion, sexual desire, “family values”, comedy, music, entertainment, false religion, social engineering, journalistic propaganda, and junk science. I trust that I have not shocked any of you by writing that. However, I do realize that some of my readers may feel that much of what I have penned about gamedevelopers.ie in this letter is heartless and in violation of our Christian duty to love everyone. If so, I can say only that that fact is simply inescapable to any thinking man or woman. “Thinking” is the key word in the previous sentence.

Gamedevelopers.ie’s hatchet men suspect that “we should be grateful for the precious freedom to be robbed and kicked in the face by such a noble creature as gamedevelopers.ie.” First off, that’s a lousy sentence. If they had written that gamedevelopers.ie doesn’t let a day pass without showing to the world that is is as little fitted to be trusted with liberty as thieves with keys or children with firearms, then that quote would have had more validity. As it stands, gamedevelopers.ie attributes the most distorted, bizarre, and ludicrous “meanings” to ordinary personality charcteristics. For example, if you’re shy, it calls you “fearful and withdrawn”. If, instead, you’re the outgoing and active type, gamedevelopers.ie says you’re “acting out due to trauma”. Why does it say such things? To turn that question around, what does it hope to achieve by repeatedly applying its lips to the posteriors of ghastly, lawless louts? In other words, when it promotes one social program after the next to take care of some segment of society, is it doing it for that segment of society or is it doing it because it seeks power and position? No, don’t guess; this isn’t audience participation day. I’ll just tell you. But before I do, you should note that it disregards any evidence that contradicts its views. Do I blame society for this? No, I blame gamedevelopers.ie. Do I want gamedevelopers.ie to put a sick spin on important issues? No, thank you very much; I would much rather reveal the constant tension between centripetal and centrifugal forces of dialogized heteroglossia resulting from gamedevelopers.ie’s screeds.

While there’s no dispute that gamedevelopers.ie’s self-aggrandizing and probably a little noisome, it’s also cunning, implacable, fanatic, and ruthless. Why else would it get on my nerves? Once again, either gamedevelopers.ie has no real conception of the sweep of history, or it is merely intent on winning some debating pin by trying to pierce a hole in my logic with “facts” that are taken out of context. The take-away message of this letter is that gamedevelopers.ie’s ignorance is matched only by its arrogance. Think about it. I don’t want to have to write another letter a few years from now, in the wake of a society torn apart by gamedevelopers.ie’s loud apothegms, reminding you that you were warned.

I think he must have seen “V for Vendetta” over the weekend, got a hard on for taking down the establishment, tied a shower curtain around his shoulders and then went online to take down the voluntarily run online game development forum oppressors

Dark, is there actually a complaint here?

As a member of GD.ie since its inception 4 years ago, I feel that I should be able to put in at least some kind of reply to this post if you are trying to give out.

From its origins four years ago, GameDevelopers.ie stood for one thing. To put in place a place on the internet where Irish people involved in development could come to get to know each other, ask questions and basically put in place the foundation for an Irish game development community to happen.

Considering what it was like before this website was around, where companies may have only been a mile away from each other yet did not even know that they existed, I believe that the website has achieved its goal.

Getting the games industry in Ireland off to any sort of start has been a slow and difficult process, but consider the successes this website has allowed to happen; to put into place an resource for those involved to be able to contact each other, for universities to at least get basic information they need to put in place an infrastructure of qualified graduates for the one time when the investment community meets individuals or teams who do the numbers right and get viable businesses up and running.

It has also put a direct communication channel between government agencies such as the IDA and Enterprise Ireland and individuals and companies who need their assistance most, as well as tailoring their resources to the irish development community.

Also, many members of this community have achieved jobs through this website, and I include myself in this. For those already working in the industry, it provides a forum for those who need to ask questions to do so, as well for those ex-pat developers (of which are are many) to keep track of what’s going on at home.

I am by no way saying that I have agreed with everything GD.ie has done over the years, and I am not a developer at all, but I do consider that this website has achieved more good than harm from its existence.

As a community which is fuelled by volunteers putting their unpaid (in 90% of cases) time into providing material, coding the website, organising events, and publicising in whatever way that there is a game development community in Ireland, each and every member should be proud of what we have achieved here.

DarkSaviour, this community is perfectly willing to change over time, it has been in constant evolution since there were 20 of us at the start which has grown into the hundreds. If you have something to offer to this forum, or constructive criticism instead of a long post which I can barely make sense out of, please put them in bullet points.

      Jamie
