really did anyone think it was going to come out this year in europe? the spring launch date was clearly BS and the “world wide” nov 2006 was the same. Really sony are making too many mistakes, they are really testing there customer loyalty, sega did the same with the mega cd and 32x…

I bet EA and Konami are laughing all the way to the bank, M$ threw a shed load of cash at them to keep FIFA and Pro Evo away from the PS3 for christmas and there was no need

They actually secured a year exclusive deal, so that means the games won’t be on PS3 even when it actually launches. So it isn’t a waste of money from an M$ POV.
I’m not sure if M$ can actually even “waste” money!!

It has been falsely reported on some websites that KONAMI will release its “Pro Evolution Soccer 6” (*) exclusively for Microsoft’s Xbox 360. These reports are not true. KONAMI is currently proceeding with the production of a multi-platform release of “Pro Evolution Soccer 6” so that as many people as possible can enjoy the game. [/quote:1bd31518fb]

Most the titles I’ve seen for the 360 are lackluster at best and some just look like higher res XBox games.
Dont get me wrong I want a 360 but I’m weak to suggestions…. still cant figure out why I buy lucozade clear when I cant stand the stuff…..
-
07/09/2006 at 9:32 pm #33427AnonymousInactive
Well the standout titles at the moment for me would be Gears Of War, Dead Rising, Lost Planet and Too Human. Hopefully they’ll live up to my expectations anyway. :D

It doesn’t really matter how big Wii is at Christmas. There’s going to have limited units across all territories and they will sell out. Same as PS3, it will sell out. Thats not in dispute. European customers will be pissed though and especially as this is the second time in 2 years that Europe has been compleletly snubbed by Sony. People will still buy the product but the Sony name has been truely dented. Microsoft said they could do a world wide release and they succeeded, sure they ran out and it wasn’t great, but it worked. Sony in response said they could do it bigger and better and they’ve failed miserably. When it eventually does come out in Europe it will have a better package, just like the PSP, and sell out, like the PSP, but its the reputation thats hurt.
Christmas is all about XBox, even moreso now. Nintendo and Wii will sell-out. The question is, how many people can Microsoft convert because they couldn’t get the console they wanted. You’ll probably see more Xbox advertising than you’ll see Sony or Nintendo this xmas.

really i makes you think did sony had march 2007 planned the whole time? when the 360 came out i know a lot of people said “sure the ps3 will be out in spring, i’ll wait for that” if they knew it was spring +1 year, ( unless there are more delays).
really when sony said world wide launch in spring, who really believed that it was going to make it ( for europe at least)
-
08/09/2006 at 9:43 am #33430AnonymousInactive
Sony always planned to release in 2007 in Europe. While it wasn’t evident to me until now. When I did a few interviews (the same day that Sony announced launch details). Their first party titles didn’t seem phased, it was in the cards all along or at least it was certainly expected.
I don’t think Sony missing europe is a big deal, I certainly don’t think it will impact the PS3 in anyway. The fanboys will be fanboys, provided Sony can convert the casual gamers to part with such a huge amount of cash. They will gain the lead eventually.
I am an XBox fan through and through, I love their development tools, I love their support. As far as I am concerned they have done anything right. That said I am not stupid, I read the non-sensical arguements on the games forums. I read all the BS that Sony, Nintendo and MS peddle. I still do not see any change.
Sony will be market leader (eventually), MS will be very close behind, and Nintendo will once again win the hearts and minds.
What I am really curious about is Blu-ray, and is it already dead in the water. That is the more crucial element at this. This is why Sony are pushing into the States so heavily. If they can convince the masses to adopt Blu-Ray. PS3 will be an instant success. If they can’t well thats when it gets interesting. That’s when the market is blown right open. It means that both Nintendo and MS made the right decision in sticking with proven technology, but enhancing their products and services.
It’s all in the air at the moment, but I don’t see the Europe launch affecting all to many gamers. We made our minds up some months ago who we were going to back, and people back their own interests. If you are willing to put 600 euro in a console you will defend it down to the ground. Come March they will still defend it down to the ground.

well there are quite a few in our forums that where real sony fans that say that is is the final straw and are get a 360/wii/both.
but yeah the usa market is the most important ( they have the highest % of hd tv in homes). Sony are thinking if the blueray wins the ps3 wins, and if the US pick blueray, the world will follow… sony’s position looks a hell of alot weaker now than it did a year ago, but still they would be favourates to come out in the lead on the next gen war.

Yeah, making worldwide release promises, looking stupid when you fail to do it and dropping share prices because of it….yeah…its was always planned for 2007, it obvious!

08/09/2006 at 1:33 pm #33436AnonymousInactive
Then why was one of their first party launch titles originally penned for March 2007? And after display at E3 later confirmed for March 2007. While Sony were shouting from the rooftops that it would be a launch title? Perhaps they were optomistic about it’s development, perhaps they wanted that killer app.
Why would a first part game title that was aimed as a launch title be aimed for March 2007?
The only logical reason is that the initial release was to be made in March 2007. Be it world wide or just europe. Sony were put in an uncomfortable position by the media and public in general where they were forced to show their hand. Unfortunately for them their leads, were overly vocal about what they could achieve.
Realistically speaking Sony new too well what was going on. How many companies received working dev kits, does anyone know when the final Dev kits were released? Does anyone know when the final controlloers were released?
Sony were put in a position where they knew that they could potentially not make the commitment. It didn’t magically happen that the heads of Sony woke up and said screw europe let’s give them March 07. It was planned, it was logistically planned down to the finest detail, and those plans would have been in place for the past several months. Perhaps not as an ideal case plan, but definately as a backup or secondary plan.
Europe always had a plan for being released in March 2007. While they tried to pull it forward, it was just far easier for them to realise that Blu-ray was a gamble they needed to win. They need to be 100% certain that their next gen technology is adopted by the American public. You cannot achieve this if you try and flood 3 massive user-bases with just 500,000 units. What you need to do is get a Christmas season with your largest market, and gradually release in the other regions. The Number 1 region in this case is America, and if America goes Blu-ray, the world goes blu-ray. With HD-DVD coming in prior to the PS3, they cannot allow HD-DVD be the only option this Christmas.
Sony want to succeed in the complete Home Entertainment sector and the PS3 is their vehicle to do so. Fine they thought they could achieve a global launch in November, their initial plan was always March 07. But they cannot go without a Christmas period in the US allowing HD-DVD to be adopted…
Yeah, making worldwide release promises, looking stupid when you fail to do it and dropping share prices because of it….yeah…its was always planned for 2007, it obvious![/quote:e0ccb9fc19]
It is obvious if you remove the 3 hot head people behind all of the statements, if you look at the release schedule for all first party games, if you look at the release schedule for all the development kits, tools and equipment. Then you see the initial plans, and you see a more realistic time-frame. Not something that was forced upon them.
The Problem is that Sony had to step up to the plate, to please the Media. Microsoft and Nintendo, the general public and the media forced them to play that hand.
When do you think the PS3 was meant to be released? November 2006 was always overly optomistic and why cut Europe (the second largest gaming block) unless it was planned to do so, and on the cards. Obviously if all went well it woulnt need to be cut, but this is mass production of new technology. It will never go to plan.

when sony said spring, I knew that was BS, as for march 07, i pretty sure then new sooner than now, but since the 360 launch, i’m not sure. Really its hard to tell wtf sony are up to most of the time…. they are either very smart or (more likly) very stupid ;)
-
08/09/2006 at 2:40 pm #33440AnonymousInactive
Well I got my information first hand from a 1st party developer. I have seen and heard from other 1st party and 3rd party developers. I’m not saying I am right, probably far from it. It’s just how I have been putting the pieces together myself. Something just seems to fit.
I just think their current schedule sits nice and tightly with what I was told back in february. And again when they announced the launch details. I don’t think they would have tried a world wide launch if it hadn’t been placed upon them.
Anyway I still don’t think a delay will affect the performance of the PS3’s sales.

That title slipped I guess.
You do realise that there are going to be games launching with the machine on Novmber 17th? So….um…..they are ready…..and therefore would have been ready for a European launch too.
Is it just me or does that seem really obvious?

Ah…no.
No one has forced anyones hand. Microsoft did an decent world-wide launch last year and Sony bigged themselves up saying we can and will do it better than you guys and they’ve fallen flat on their faces. Nintendo still haven’t given a date! No-one forced the issue. And talking about launch titles releasing in March, launch is STILL in november…what are you talking about! European launch is delayed…a launch title is a US/Japan launch title.

[/quote:dae175ab0a]I think i’m in that boat too at this point. With the announcement that more and more games that were suppossed to be ps3 exclusives, according to sony, going multi-platform ( such as the great looking Assassins Creed more recently ) i’m seriously considering swapping my cash for a 360 this side of christmas. It also seems to have some great looking exclusive games coming late 2006 to add to the few good games that are already out

I know when the final Dev Kits and Controllers came, just not 100% sure what is under the NDA or not sure best to pay caution to the wind. Hence why I didn’t name the first party developers either or the dates. But they are UK based, which should limit your guesses somewhat.
I just feel that with recent news, and what I was told many months back, it fits too nicely together. Perhaps it a coincidence, but I doubt Sony left too much to chance.

Not if you ask Sony it isn’t! Isn’t it a a fully upgradeable system, much in the same way a PC is upgradeable. I can’t see the price going down any time soon if thats the case.

I understand why its expensive with the Blu Ray stuff and all but I wont be getting one for a good while anyway. 500 or 600 for a console is crazy no matter how much you can upgrade it!
Isnt it only the hard drive you can upgrade anyway? maybe the HDMI thing as well…
