Thats the average including leads and directors. So it is going to be high. What they need is for Junior, Mid, Senior and Lead. That would have been a better breakdown.[/quote:e3774e5262]
Is it… broken down on years experience and on position.

Their not high at all they’re spot on. That 52k USD translates to 27k sterling.

Companies paying that at least, off the top of my head. Sega.. 8)

a couple of the big platform- and publisher-owned studios do seem to pay quite a bit more than the majority of devs. most uk developers’ programmer starting salaries are closer to 20k and often the other side of it, from what i’ve heard. so as an average for uk devs it seems a bit high to me. but then it is a survey of american salaries… wonder how irish salaries compare

Very very few decent pixel artists about apparently. Far too many of the artsy types who only want to go down the 3d route.

that particular version of the annual Gamsutra Salary Survey is from 2005 (despite it being reprinted in the 2006 Career Guide doc which came out months ago). This year’s results are usually out around now in the print version of the mag

[NB: The intro on Game Careers (http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=10794) says the survey is taken from the 2006 Salary Survey. So the data is EITHER from 2005 or 2006… ]

Every year I add the Gamasutra survey results into a spreadsheet I have documenting the average Irish & UK salaries. While the gap between Europe and US is steadily decreasing, there is on average a 12 – 15% difference (Europe generally being lower than US). If you look at the data behind the charts, West Coast US salaries are much higher then the rest of the States genrally, and this skews US salaries upwards

i have a friend in london thats a great pixel artist, would there be as good as a demand for them there do you think?

I would presume if theres mobile game companies in london then there would be demand for them. Presumably this was the type of company in that develop ad?

Also that company was probably offering that kind of money cause they probably decided that they would get one artist and pay him above the average but give him a load of work. Because its hard to find one pixel artist these days not alone a few. But im just guessing, but i would have though ordinarily it sounds a bit high.

True, but the survey saying 27K is for up to 3 years experience. You should go up a lot once not considered a grad anymore.
