So folks… does any date in November suit us all?
I have no idea what I’m doing yet but I’m not booked on any Friday yet. Presuming we want a shindig next month, let’s try to find a date that works for us and get it nailed nice and early!

20/10/2006 at 1:58 am #34126AnonymousInactive
10th and 24th look alright at my end. Hopefully this time I’ll be able to stay for more than a couple of mins. :D
-
20/10/2006 at 10:47 am #34131AnonymousInactive
Not 24th, am in London for Conference
-
20/10/2006 at 11:40 am #34135Aphra KKeymaster
except the 24th or 25th make sense as that is the week of CGames in DIT. Ernest Adams is doing a workshop on the Sat and I take it folk will be coming up from around the country for those dates.
I am out of the country weekend before.
Aphra.

20/10/2006 at 10:53 pm #34139AnonymousInactive
24th sounds good. Where?
-
24/10/2006 at 1:23 pm #34191Aphra KKeymaster
ah, the perennial question.
McGruders is ok, but not so good for the walk back into town if we want to stay out.
Back to one of the old haunts – O’Neills on Suffolk Street, Toners on Baggott Street…?
just not Doyles!
Aphra.
-
24/10/2006 at 1:27 pm #34192Aphra KKeymaster
by the way, is Sat night better for those travelling up/down from the country? Might be a bit of a rush after work on Friday night. Speak now…or it will probably be the Friday night
Aphra.

25/10/2006 at 12:22 am #34207AnonymousInactive
Have we ever had a shindig on a Saturday? I wonder how the turnout would be. It could be worth having a go.
Now we just need a date!
-
29/10/2006 at 9:14 pm #34289AnonymousInactive
A saturday?!? … well it really isn’t all that much of a change for me now but either way i’m loose…or something!
-
05/11/2006 at 8:35 pm #34352AnonymousInactive
Nov 24th or 25th? – cool, My ladyfriend and I will be over in Dublin on those dates
I think Friday would be better day for me, but I could also do Saturday.
See you then.
-
06/11/2006 at 10:56 am #34354Aphra KKeymaster
well no major clammoring for Sat…so Friday it is I guess..
Since CGames is in DIT we might think of moving our shindig somewhere in that vicinity. Do people know Ryans on Camden Street – just up from the Village and Whelans heading towards the Bleeding Horse?
Aphra.
-
06/11/2006 at 12:30 pm #34356AnonymousInactive
I think I know it, it should be easy to find
-
06/11/2006 at 2:45 pm #34358AnonymousInactive
Shindig after the conference is a good idea. Well done, whomever (aphra, as usual?).
Is The Long Haul still open? Hasn’t fallen down yet? Although, it might be crowded…
-

24th it is I’ll definitely make this one. Looking forward to catching up, its been ages since I’ve seen y’all

Excellent, now that I work more than 10 yards away from you I can use all those artist jokes I’ve been saving up. :DAs for the venue, may I suggest The Long Stone just across from Doyles on the corner of Townsend St, nice pub and its central. Plus they have Kopperberg which is always good
-
07/11/2006 at 9:14 am #34364AnonymousInactive
Was watching a documentary the other week which basically said that all artists are pretty much brain damaged normal people. Made a lot of sense.
Dave
-
07/11/2006 at 12:35 pm #34371Aphra KKeymaster
I was in the Long Stone about two weeks ago and it was appalling. Apparently they have changed ownership and while I am getting old we couldn’t near ourselves think, let alone speak. They had a DJ doing spot prizes!
Long Hall is still open but gets very jammed..post smoking ban the old body odours can be a bit over the top!
I still plug for Ryans – after work crowd will be leaving about 8pm and we can all slot in nicely. Kind of a done up old man’s pub…with a very local crowd. we could get some funny looks.
those who want can head to any number of venues after…including, what is that classy place in the old cinema??
Aphra.

Aw thats a pity, I used to really like that place but haven’t been for awhile. Seems to be the way most of the quieter pubs are going nowadays. :?Ryans sounds interesting, especially since I’m used to getting the old funny looks from my time in Donegal.

Le Palais, I believe, is the venue in the old cinema. And no, no…no.
Ryan’s…shore why not? -

It can’t be bait if you don’t believe in the existence of ‘normal’ people…Artists are just trained at expressing or something like that, so it’s easier to spot the weird. I mean, does Dave really classify himself as normal? Who’d take that seriously?
-
09/11/2006 at 9:03 pm #34407AnonymousInactive
Ah give him a break lads – thats Jizzledon, his character from WOW talking, and clearly having donned the plus 2 Socks of Slander.
He gets a little confused sometimes, our Dave, probably wasn’t the TV he was watching, more than likely he was looking at fire sprites dancing in the flickering flame of the sole candle that lights his programming attic.

All welcome.

Do you have a map for the area? Is it near Trinity College? -
23/11/2006 at 5:05 pm #34548Aphra KKeymaster
here is a picture of it – http://www.irish-architecture.com/buildings_ireland/dublin/southcity/camden_street/ryans.html
The address is 92 Camden Street Lower, Dublin 2.
Map – not far from Trinity – maybe 15 minutes walk – to an area sometimes called the Village quarter, Find DIT on the map (big blue box) and to the right you will see Wexford street which changes into Camden Street.
See http://www.softguide-dublin.com/maps/l52o54.html

*wakes up*
Ah bugger, a long night at Blue Moose followed by a day of picketing here in DCU kinda wiped me out and I seem to have fallen asleep. I’ll make the next one if its on the 15th which is when most of us college folk break for the holidays and before we return home to whatever hole we came from. :)
-
27/11/2006 at 9:50 am #34590AnonymousInactive
Oops…missed the quoted bit… I’m flying back on the 22th, so guess I’ll be missing that one too.

ok so it will be pretty busy over the next few weeks but should we try for a pre-christmas knees up on either the 15th or the 22nd? Obviously the later date suits our overseas visitors..how about those down or up the country? The locals can stumble in I am sure on either date unless we clash with some big event…

Dublin is where the airport is to me these days. Come down to Wexford ;) -
06/12/2006 at 5:12 pm #34754Aphra KKeymaster
I guess if Wexford got an airport we would!
prob is people are in and out of Dublin on their way somewhere or other so it kind of makes sense
looking like the 22nd is more favoured..or the 20th-22nd :) perhaps..

:( We were there till about half ten, and were eventually forced to move due to alternating frozen and compressed bodies, depending on when we were inside or out. Next time, will arrange to have numbers properly just in case.

I guess we have had no thread cause we had a bit of a get together after the Latham talk and the Dare to be Digital Day!
Next week is games week in DCU – if I have my dates right – Gizmo maybe you can confirm.
If I get a ticket for the rugby I should be around that weekend :)
Aphra.
-
16/02/2007 at 3:30 pm #35662AnonymousInactive
Indeed, while most of the events during the week will be more games/competition orientated we will be having talks by Aphra, (hopefully) Mal and also Neil Costigan, a researcher here in DCU who has been working on the PS3 for the last while. He’ll be demoing not only his work on using the console for Cryptographic work but also having a few games for those interested in seeing it. ;)
I’ll send Aphra a timetable for the week once my lovely PRO gets the poster finished.

How’d he get a ps3 dev kit? sony are very tight with them, also there like 15k.

Not too sure to be honest, maybe to investigate alternative uses for the Cell chip? I’d say he’ll mention it during the talk though. :)
-
18/02/2007 at 2:13 pm #35677AnonymousInactive
I’m very interested in the sounds of that – I’ve heard of Niel Costigan before, too, I can’t remember where, though.
Any ideas of the exact date?
-
18/02/2007 at 2:52 pm #35678AnonymousInactive
I think we’d benefit from creating a structure for our shindigs. I remember us discussing this at one point but it never really came to anything. Perhaps it would work if we had a gathering every six to eight weeks. That gives us something to stick to while allowing the flexibility to select the best date for everyone.

I’ve PM’d the details to Aphra so she should have them up soon. In the meantime, the talk is on here in DCU this Tuesday at 12pm. There’s more info in the link below but if you have any other questions just drop me a PM. :)
