Don’t know if ye already know but there is a new games show called Game On starting on the 27th at 7pm on Channel 6.
I’m sure it will have the standard news and reviews setup but still might be worth a glance. Surely they’ll feature Irish companies and games at some stage.

Your kidding me, those guys were the gayest lads on tv. Someone and Daz if i remember correctly.. jesus… no doubt the channel 6 show is going to blow also, all game shows do. ive only ever seen one good one and that was “bits” because the girls were cute and they knew their frickin games. they werent reciting from a script someone else wrote, they actually wrote their own dialog etc.. they also actually played the games, so they had that element of credibility.

Yea, I only saw it a couple of times (no Sky for me) but I thought it was pretty dire. The “Games Guru” I think they called him. Total rip off of the dude from Bad Influnence of yester year. :D

I’m pretty sure its on NTL as well for all viewers outside of the hole that is our capital.

I thought NTL digital was only available in Dublin.

It has made its way to the wilds of Galway too, as has Channel 6. Although I have to admit that I have yet to watch a single programme on Channel 6

Well I watched the program, it’s actually pretty decent. The reviewers seem to know what they are talking although they reviewed only 2 games. I missed a bit of the feature on competitive gaming at the beginning but it seemed okay. The news section gave some decent news, although not quite as up to date as us internet users are used to (The covered Sony’s law suit against lik-sang.com but didn’t mention that since then lik-sang.com closed down). However, the Retro section seemed a little rushed though (hard to give a full description of the NES in less then 3 minutes) and could have been a bit more substantial (they used an embarrassingly 80s NES commercial for a bit of their feature). One slightly dodgy feature was them using tarot cards to predict how 2 competing football games soon to be released would fare, to be honest I found the idea pretty novel.
Overall, it’s pretty slick and well produced program, as well as being generally competent as to what video games are about (a vital stumbling bock many a gaming program, and probably even the BAFTA game awards, fall down on). Some areas could do with improvement, and some may feel its not hardcore enough, but it seems to do its job as a nice video game focused, regularly broadcasted television program.
By the way, I got the channel on NTL cable.

is cybernet still not going?? I remember watching it lately on some obscure sky digital channel!!
I think gamer.tv is pretty ok!! and When Games Attack (though I think that’s finished now)…both on bravo!
-
30/10/2006 at 5:31 pm #34296AnonymousInactive
Cybernet is still on one of the odd entertainment channels. gamer.tv was pretty good until they let the presenter in front of the camera… it’s like the first time I saw Mike and Jerry from Penny Arcade sort of destroyed the illusion of coolness…
-
30/10/2006 at 5:35 pm #34297AnonymousInactive
They put him back to just doing the voice over!
The whole putting him infront of the camera was part of the whole “gamer tv next gen” shoite!
Has gone back to it’s original format…..for now!

The best games show is, On the Spot. Gamespot.com’s weekly show every Thursday at 4pm (psd). Its come along way and most the editors are pretty entertaining in front of the camera. Add to that they also take questions from the view live and ask their guest on the show, be it ibg Ea producer showing off the new Fifa or whatever. I like it lots and its much better i find than Cybernet who don’t really know who their target demographic is, ie 4am show showing kids games. And whats up with every Cybernet game demo they always die or explode right at the end of that games segment?

On the Spot isnt bad, but their pronunciation of Glasgow is painful…

I LOVE that show. See the ps3 and the wii on it this week? was cool.
Anyone ever check out “the hotspot” podcast from gamespot? hosted by rich gallup and jeff girstmann with 2 different guests every tuesday. It’s reall good and has a great insight into kind of heavier info from the games industry. and it clocks in at more than an hour!

Yea I love the Hotspot even more, I get anxious every week for it. On the Spot was extra special this week for me, as they read my question, I rarely get to watch it live too….was great…was like I was part of the show.
