yes the open day is the 8th. The date is on this website!!

I am teaching in the morning but will be in for the afternoon and the evening talk – and of course a pint after if people are hanging around.

Sorry Omen, probably won’t get to hear your talk!

Well I had a chat with some of my fellow students and well….it’s looking like it’s me, myself and I coming from ITB!

Really show’s how much students here want to do something with games! (Besides play them)

Anyways yes I’m going to be there…or should I say DARE….sorry I had to

since the Latham talk is at 7pm in the old MLE building I suspect there might even be a drink before the talk and after the Dare event :)

probably stay around the area near the hub..

      Pretty good talk today.

Think I’ll go for it summer 2008 though, not quite ready for it yet.

Was pretty good, hopefully we (Letterkenny IT) are going to submit a team. Just need to find a few more members.

Was very good talk and nice questions raised that were helpful for me…and on that shameless XNA plug…I won’t say anything.

Anyways yeah I’d love to try for it this year but due to other commitments I can’t ( :( ) but I’m gonna try next year and then year after if I can. Things can only go up from here….hopefully

Apparently the turnout was fantastic with the hall really packed. Looks like the idea of the competition along with the critical mass of different colleges doing games degrees has finally kicked in.

Yeah, it was great craic. Unfortunately, our bus was waiting at 16:15, so we had to leave, pity though, as it sounds like we missed a lot. Some very interesting speakers, and my level of interest and enthusiasm for Dare certainly went up. I know the same is true of a lot of my classmates.

It’s a pity we couldn’t stay longer, as it was the first time I met any of the LYIT games course face-to-face. I would have liked to have discussed our relative courses.

All in all, a great and successful day from what I gathered, and fantastic bagels! Really good!

Yeah that was a shame. Pity we didn’t get to stay longer and chat to some of the people but there ya go.. Bus drivers won’t wait for anyone! :)

I didn’t hear Damo but by all accounts he was very good!

And the MLE auditorium was full of students, they had to bring in extra chairs.

so well done to the hub and all the students who travelled.

there was a small turnout for the Latham talk of about 20 – we might need to do some more advertising of such events. Hopefully those who were there found it useful – he covered everything from bonding and the industry to mutating natural forms using computers!

What class / year are you in in BCFE out of curiosity? I’m first year ludo.
I found it wierd that lectureres didn’t bring classes to the launch. I know sergio was there though, did he bring you guys?

Damo’s speech was pretty good, nice to get a proper insight into the aftermath of Dare if you do well. That Microsoft guy was funny, managed to last until 5 minutes before the end until he plugged! heh

Pity I couldn’t stay for the Latham talk, was gonna to but Krudd had to work. lame

Thanks guys, hope I didn’t bore you too much.

I forgot a lot of stuff I was meant to tell you all so I might try get a bit together and get it all written down at some point next week.

Glad I stuck around for the Latham talk, was really interesting, big thanks to Steve for organising that.

Big thanks to all the organisers of the Dare talk too, if it wasn’t for Laura I would have gone hungry :)

Good to meet lots of you during and after the event, good luck with your entries.

It really is a fantastically horrible site isn’t it :)

It was so much better when it was a professional looking site in 2003…

yes, they really should just list the dates in a calendar…which is what I will do when I confirm them.

Dare folks just informed me of the following

‘Team submissions deadline is April 11th and the teams must apply through the main Dare to be Digital website. 6 teams will be selected for interview on April 25th. They’ll be informed well in advance of the interview to prepare.’

so now it is in the calendar on gd.ie!

all very quiet about Dare this year. Deadline for entries fast approaching.

Maybe the Dare website and forums have taken off this year?

i heard from some of the CGHND2’s that only 2 members from a further education school(ballyfermot) can enter. that i think is unfair

Contact a dare representative, that rule has been there for ages, but it has not been inforced for the last 2 years at least (more than 2 people from bcfe on the teams for 2005 & 2006)

What happens for the training, does anyone know? is it a sort-of on-site training or just documentation that comes with the app?
Anyone know if the Lua binding has been implemented with it yet?Its down as coming soon on the instinct site!

Our group wasn’t using instinct last year but from what I can remember Instinct technology sent over teams on at least 2 occasions to work with the groups that were.

I think they were also answering questions via email
