The problem is, that statement isn’t true, especially in the US, its a potential election trump card.

However, I think the post Aphra put up about the BBFC report is intruiging and might help curb this stuff.

I don’t think that they found a causal link. At the moment most of the studies seem to be returning that people who like violent media tend to like violent video games.

It is all politics, just look at our own politicians and the silly shit they come up with. You’ve got to remember also that while this is a political issue in the US at the moment, the violent games issue has been used by politicians in other countries (UK, Austrailia) for election reasons. Most people who make video games are not intrested in politics. Unfourtunately if we are ever going to prove how stupid these people really are we have to get involved in their ego trips.

I think even justifying his existence with this thread isn’t even worth it

i also think alot of the news sites are saying that he was reenacting scenes from some violent movie in some of those pics he sent to nbc. so therefore violent moves are to blame not violent video games :)

Vivendi published earlier versions, but after the split, Valve used Microsoft to publish the XBox version of the game.

Of course this could be JT getting it backwards and talking about MS windows as a platform rather than MS games as a publisher.

Its also likely that JT is going after MS because he has (yesterday I believe) settled with Take Two out of court and is now severely limited in what he can do or say about take two, its products, or any of its subsidiaries.

JT shouldn’t be dismissed too lightly. He keeps saying that games are used by prospective public-shooting sociopaths as training tools. This phrase keeps ringing over and over through his diatribes, and it becomes an automatic concept association in the ears of those who have no personal interest in games. It’s a common technique with public speakers, like most of the top neo-cons who have nice ones like Shock’n’awe and War on Terror (their PR people are the best – who thinks of global warming anymore, its climate change).

So in some Doomsday scenario where people in power actually listen to JT, you might see games censored not because they cause violence, but because they expedite it. Like guns. But with a smaller political lobby.

Well either way he’s still at it. Halo is his new target as well as further attacks on Microsoft’s Counter-Strike. :roll:
