Hey,
Just a thought, do many people here suffer from RSI in fingers or wrist, especially with the hours that people sometimes work… or if not, do you do something to prevent it?
Me, I’m lucky and haven’t had a problem as of yet…maybe something I should be wary of in the future?Damian

I have to be very careful with my keyboard positioning – ‘F’ and ‘J’ keys centred between me and the screen, if you know what I mean, with the keyboard well in on the desk as I’m a lanky long-armed bastard, and at a slight angle so the left side is closer – otherwise my right arm/wrist kicks off after a few hours’ coding. I’m pretty picky about my chair too – it has to be high, with the back fairly upright, and I rest my elbows on the chair arms… It’s only on those busy days where I forget to stand up and stretch every once in a while that I’ve any trouble though.
And though I use a mouse at work, I prefer to use a trackball at home and only use the mouse for gaming… I’m tempted to go for a trackball at work for comfort reasons just so I could giggle inside when other people try to use my PC.

I suffer a bit but I use a program called Work Pace. I have it set to make me stop for 10 seconds ever 5 mins and for 5 mins every 20 mins. In the 5 min break it also shows me exercises i can do to. Its a great program.

I have a gel wrist guard for my mouse hand as it was getting sore a while back. It seems to have worked.
I also have one of those wrist rests for the keyboard I use. I think they DO make a difference.
If the rests dont work, I am gonna get this setp; Vertical mouse and this keyboard with the num pad on the left (THATS BRILL!)

got it when finishing my Phd…
had to stop typing all together for a few weeks, which didn’t help my Phd one bit.
Now my office set up is really good but setting up at home is not quite so easy and my home office is definitely not very ergonomically sound…
also got hand cramp using the first Xbox controller – far too big for my hands..
Aphra.

I also have one of those mouse mats with the wrist thing they are quite good.
Dont use the keyboard one they are bad for you. The best thing is to keep your keyboard flat and dont rest your wrists on the desk.

I have one of those mouse rests thrown in the back of my drawer at work. That’s how comfortable I found it…

lolI only have it set up at home but I am consdiering installing it to my Portable HDD to tell me to stop for 10 seconds every 5 mins but not for 5 mins every 20 mins that would be to long when working.

I got it quite a bit before when I was working with one of the default dell keyboards. I currently use a soft touch one from some noname company and it has mostly fixed the problem. I tried the gel mouse mat thingy, but as a bove, its currently stuck at the bottom of my drawer.Dave
