I just heard about this on the radio ( our famous Stephen Nolan show ), and thought it might be of interest to some here, who have an interest in games linked with sociology etc…
I won’t have a chance to check this out until this evening ( meetings etc ), but if anyone gets a chance to give it a go, post some screenies!
( I’m sure it’ll get some negative responses also, which is probably part of the project aims )

A Warren Dowie from Newtownabbey. So says badly scanned Irish life article on the site.
Interface is woefully bad but game itself seems quite complex. -

Could be my internet connection but the server for this game seems crappy. I haven’t bothered pinging it but seems very slow and boots me back to the start page or gives a 404 far too often. Anyone else tried it? Same problems?
My brief moment in the sun. Top ten in game…. Then the reprisals came.

Thanks for playing and for your comments.
Problem is the game is undergoing serious server strain. Two new servers will be implemented for Wednesday

Haven’t had a chance to look at it, but is this like PimpWars? That was a great waste of my time in uni times :)

Hello Warren, welcome to the forum.
Congrats on the game – stressed servers is a sure sign of popularity. It is very adicitve.I have worked as a graphic designer for several years so am always critical of design so I hope my comments were’nt taken to heart.
Tell us something about the game from a development perspective.
How long did it take you to make? Has there been any negative reaction? Tried explaining what it was to my girlfriend but but she kept thinking it was a recruitment tool – like americas army game but for paras I guess. What have you worked on before? Any other projects in the pipeline?

The game is developed in php5 and is probably one of the nicest bits of code that we have written. It took about 3 months of development but has major ongoing updates and enhancements.
we will probably about v4 have a front end change and i really welcome your critical evaluation.
The only negative reaction I have recieved was on the Stephen Nolan show but as usual is a bit of political spin doctoring.
I have recieved thousands of emails of thanks and congratulations and see the same on the games chat rooms.
My companies normal work is ecomm or desktop apps so this was a refreshing break from the norm.
Yes we have a few other projects in the pipe one in particular for the xbox360 /ps3 type of market but I can’t say much at this stage I guess you willjust have to watch this space :P
Peace

good luck with your other projects warren , i know how hard things can be at times , i was working on an game with an big irish feel (nothing to do with the troubles), but it got shot down as qoute " there is not a market for it " ,
but yea i am impressed with the game , and hey even negative reactions from the Nolan show or other jack thompson wannabes , will still make people play the game, cause they want to make up their own minds.

Welcome to the forums Warren – it’s great to see another NI based game developer!
Have you asked for / did you get any assistance from Invest NI to develop / market the game?
